Separate section for RevolutioN suggestions?
« on: February 07, 2015, 01:04:31 PM »
There's been loads of suggestions for RevolutioN suggestions, if it continues, might it be wise to group them into their own spot on the forum so that we can see what's been already discussed in order not to duplicate threads, add our own interest on existing threads and give the good people at RevolutioN an easier time of choosing what to make when all of their market research here is laid out in one place?

The Mods are considering the suggestion for a separate Crowdfunding section

Perhaps the RevolutioN web site?

www.revolutiontrains.com (our website which we will continue to update and improve!)

There is an FAQ section on our website in the "How it Works" section,
,,,
You could consider the website as a form of concentrated "wish list" where modellers can actually show real support, rather than the vague "I'd buy bucketloads of *****" which is a characteristic of model railway forums and chit-chat.

My bold underlining !

Hi Malcolm,

Possibly badly phrased - I mean that once they appear, modellers can show their support by actually declaring.

It's not the intention of Mike or me to add any kind of forum to the website - that's what this place is for!

If people do not want to have discussions about potential projects on here then we may have to think again, though I can't really see why they wouldn't...

cheers

Ben A.

Perhaps the RevolutioN web site?

Would rather it was here - this is about the only N-gauge related place I visit online and the place from where I get the best updates about developments in the hobby.

I am with d-a-n on this one a separate section on the forum.

Means everyone can be involved and not clog up the Revolution website with discussion and let the website do what it is designed to do just like the forum is here to talk about it!

If there was a separate section (which I think is good btw) is there a way for those of us not interested in this sort of thing to filter it out.
Don't get me wrong, I think it is a great venture for the guys, but when I logged on the other night there were 5 posts on the first page, I don't model this sort of thing so don't want to see it, so can I filter it out?

If there were a separate section would it be open to all Vendors/manufacturers who wish to solicit the the opinion of the forum?

It shou,d be fair and editable to all..

That seems like a fair thing to allow - currently it seems RevolutioN are the ones courting opinions on what they could produce but if GF, Dapol, UM, DJM or any other manufacturer wanted to use it then I imagine we as a forum would be only too happy to reply to them as well.

The only concern with that is that it might just degenerate into a wish list forum. which, to be fair isn't quite what the majority of these threads have been. I think what sets the recent threads apart is that, in most cases, a reasonably well researched pitch has been presented, mainly because that is what Ben and Mike have asked us for, and encouraged. Further, they have made favourable noises about some of these proposals. A discussion has risen out of most, to bring together knowledge from various sources, that has led to a mature assessment about what is needed to produce each individual model.

By all means have a wish list forum, if that's what you want, but keep it separate from any forum/sub-forum that contains seriously thought out proposals. All the manufacturers are welcome to come on the NGF and see what our thoughts are, but so far the only organisation that has specifically asked us to put proposals forward is RevoultioN. I don't see Farish, or Dapol actively 'courting' us in this way, so fair play to them.

Just my half a tanners worth.

A sticky at the top of the subforum ensuring the current format of proposals remains would be essential. It could well turn into a wish list but it would be good to keep it all in one place. I agree with Greybeema that it isn't just there for the benefit of RevolutioN but I'm also realistic enough to understand that GF/Dapol/UM probably aren't going to even bother looking at it but it's just in one of my above posts to be inclusive. TBH, I like that Revolution are asking us what we want and more power to them if they manage to pull it off. If having a subforum for this helps them then yes, they might have to sift through the inevitable wish listing but ultimately, it could mean more toy trains for us. Winner.
