What about Kirkby Stephen?  It's on a  much gentler curve than Dent, and still had the up and down sidings when I visited it in 1985. You'll need to fiddle around a bit with the geography at the Leeds end to create a scenic break, but there is a handy overbridge in about the right place at the Carlisle end. It's on my list of layouts to build if I ever have the space. I've seen a few "S&C" layouts where the builders have tried to cram in far too much operating interest - MPD, branch line, lots of sidings - and totally lost the essence of the S&C.  It needs to be all scenery and very little railway to be convincing.

I agree, great photos and a great layout. But in the third picture that bloke's disembodied head sticking up over the backscene either creeps me right out or cracks me up, can't decide which.

I did think it was odd that his head moved along the top of the backscene :worried:
