...Dapol are already getting a Maunsell version done for us.

Pheew! That's a relief.

Following on from Michael's post here's the email gratefully received from him this morning:

Hi Everyone

Thank you once again for your interest in this special commission of 'Cheltenham', We finally got a painted sample through from Dapol yesterday, unfortunately it is in Malachite Green instead of Maunsell, however Dapol are already on to China to get a Maunsell version painted up for us. We hope you like how it is looking (despite the wrong colour). I am obviously slightly biased but it does look great.

I would estimate this to be released around June/July time. We thank you all for your patients with this project as I know all to well how long this has been expected. If you are a fan of the Malachite paint scheme (in which Cheltenham is currently preserved) we have asked if we can have some of our production done in this livery but this has not yet been confirmed by Dapol.

I'm looking forward to getting mine and really do hope it performs a lot better than the Dapol Grange, which has proved a disappointment.

Update from China

They are unable to facilitate our request for some of the production to be in Malachite, so all 150 will be in Maunsell Green.

That leaves 149 for everyone else after I confirm my order. Although... do you have an idea of what number loco it will be yet? Only 900-909 are good for me, and without smoke deflectors. Anything else and I'll have to renumber and detach the deflectors.

Thanks Michael.

Looking forward to its arrival in Maunsell.

Pete, from the sample pictured it'll be 925, which is the correct number for 'Cheltenham'. Sounds like you may have to do something about the name plates and fitted deflectors.

I think you may be right. Perhaps I can do a swap of name plates with someone who orders a lower number in BR or malachite colours but really wants 925's name plates. No 905 Tonbridge would be ideal.

But 900-909 had different cab windows & cutouts to the rest of the class ......

I didn't know that but that's no real surprise!  :dunce:
