I have had to send it back, TO GERMANY.

You bought it from Germany, presumably to save money, you now have to suck it up that you're returning it there!

Programming a ( sort of) consist with Z21

I have 2 x Bachmann US shunters with DCC on board.

I am trying to get them to run back to back - they have similar speed characteristics

The Bach. Manual says CV29 can be reset so as to reverse the loco direction.

How do I do this? The Z21 programmer only allows access to F28.

Suggestions please

It's CV29 you need to change, it's not a function. Ie you do it on the program track, the same way you'd change the loco address.

Digitrax DZ126IN WARNING

I've bought 3 Digitrax DZ126IN chips and they have driven me bonkers. They seem to be incompatible with my Dapol locos. I've tried 2 chips each in a Dapol Pannier and a Manor. Both have the same problem in both locos: very low speed control is okay but anything above a crawl is uncontrollable and unstoppable. I've tried the full range of CV values in CV numbers 2 - 6 in every combination; nothing makes much difference. Both Digitrax chips work fine in my Farish Maunsell N class. The Pannier and Manor both work fine with a Zimo chip, except it is too big for the Pannier's cab.
Douglas of Wickness reckons that it is a Z21 issue with the Digitrax chips in certain locos. Douglas's advice is stick to European chips with a European controller.
If I can ever get hold of some Lenz silver minis (out of stock at the importer every time I try to order) I will stick with them.

Have you tried resetting the decoders??

To reset all CV values to their factory default, program CV08 to a value of 008/x08 while the locomotive is on the programming track. To reset all CV values except for 28 step speed tables to their factory values set CV08 to a value of 009/x09

Yes I've done CV 8 to 008. CV8 to 009 is the only one I haven't done, I don't see the point as all other settings give the same result and I'm fed up with messing about. I'll just use them in the Farish locos and not buy anymore Digitrax.

Update - the Digitrax chips are behaving in the same uncontrollable way in my Farish tender drive loco. Only the N class is accepting them.

Thats a bit of rubbish there mate re the chips, its probably your layout wiring or controller @JRS747 i have about 40 of these chips and all run fine and in dapol locos too.... One thing to try is to disable the analogue running cv.  Some controllers give strange commands if its enabled! Also if you have your dcc bus connections too far apart the dcc commands can get garbled... A rule of thumb is one bus connection every few feet and at ends of sidings

Everything works on DC, and DCC with the Zimo chips. Are you using a Z21 (black)? If not I think you have missed the point!
