Hi,

 :hmmm:
Would be nice if they also made a version for the Mac user.
There should be plenty of people using the Z21 with an ipad.

Hi,

Ever wondered how the Z21 app would look like on a PC/Mac?
This is a screenprint from our pc monitor.

There is a program called Bluestacks wich enables you to run all kind of apps on your PC/Mac.
It is for free and can be downloaded here (http://www.bluestacks.com/).
When it's up and running you can download the app the same way as you would do with a smartphone/tablet/ipad.

Did a test with 4 controllers at the same time :
smartphone + app
tablet + app
notebook + maintenance tool
pc + Bluestacks + app
all assigned to 1 locomotive.
Funny to see how all sliders move at the same time when the speed is changed on one device.
And of course each controller can be used for different locos.

Great piece of kit Roco :claphappy:.

Transferring data between Androis and IPhone apps ( and v/v)

From RMWeb
http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/63888-roco-z21/page-6

I found that you can export to the android device on board card or to email. Using email I was able to send the layout file to my wifes email on her iPad. I could then open the attachment and it loaded straight into Z21 for iPad HD, no problem at all.

I decided to try the other way around and set up a trial layout on the iPad with a few locos. I then emailed that to the account I use with the android. When trying to open the z21 mail attachment on the android, it told me there was no compatible app, but instead I detached the file and saved it in the on board card. I then found I could locate the file in the file manager, still in the download area. Clicking the file started up the z21 app and imported the layout from the iPad just like that.

So I can easily transfer from device to device, albeit by using the inbuilt email facility within the app.  Excellent. Now to invite some friends to play.  Thanks again for the initial answers and for those sharing their experiences in this thread.

Z21 update problem.

I downloaded Bluestacks for my Mac £( http://www.bluestacks.com/)

I switched on wifi on the Mac
I put the TP lin router and Z21 on desk next to mac, connected by network cable as usual, and switched on. Only wifi to the Mac.

I ran blue stacks, signed on with my Google ID and d/l Z21 upgrade app.

" unable to see Z21 IP"

Repeat with Mac wired to the TP link router

" unable to see Z21 IP"

I was able to ping the Z21 from the Mac

Repeat with z21 wand Mac wired to my router

" unable to see Z21 IP"

Tear out hair and return router to attic layout room
Run android tablet + z2 upgrades

Bingo!!

What was I doing wrong??

I just bought some extra green plugs for the back of my Z21. I got them for $1.64 each from a broadline electronics distributor here in the US, considerably cheaper than the 2 pounds 50p price I saw on some UK websites.

The manufacturer is On Shore Technology and their part number is EDZ1550/2

John P

Right this has persuaded me to upgrade to the white z21! Also justifies buying a cheap tablet to use as controller!

make sure you are happy with the White z21 cf. the Black Z21? there are differences that are significant.

The White z21 does not support a separate programming track or loco net.

Here is a comparison table

Does anyone know how to connect a Fleischmann Profi Boss DCC controller to the Z21 ( and what it can do?).

I've found this on the Z21 site http://www.z21.eu/en/Downloads

http://www.z21.eu/en/FAQ-Support/FAQ

(Sorry, but you are not allowed to access the gallery)

I've just noticed a clue at the bottom of the picture - will report back!

I'm still waiting for Roco to get back to me on this but here's what I discovered.

When using NCE Switch8 MkII at firmware rev 1.1 and with firmware 1.24 on the Z21 the Switch8's don't always power up properly.

First, I found that I must turn off Railcom, none of my Switch8's work with Railcom running.
Secondly I found that sometimes after powering up the Switch8's they hang up and show 3 bars rather than a wig-wag pattern on the LED display. The 3 bars means that the Switch8 is seeing power, but not valid DCC commands. The solution is to send a command to another decoder (not to the Switch8), so pick a random loco and turn its lights on, the Switch8's will complete their power up sequence and work properly.

I've pinged Roco and NCE, NCE think its plausible that the Z21 isn't sending any commands when its idle, I haven't heard back from Roco yet.

Regards,

John P
