Just a quick pic for you this time.

Me and Joe (housemate) have decided to start a small layout building company (The Fiddle Yard) in our free time so we needed a logo. We decided to use Sheaf for this and the following is what we chose.

I think it actually makes the layout look fairly realistic.

Evening all!

I'll start off with a very big grin :D How chuffed am i at the TINGs annuncements!!
Lets start with the NGS LMS Inspection Saloon, I can certainly see a couple arriving on Sheaf next year :D Thankfully i have a GWR one so we'll have a bit of variety
On to Dapol and their Working Semaphores. I think i'll have to be saying goodbye to the current non-working ratio signals in favour of the working alternative, it'll also allow me to have Upper Quadrant instead of the current GWR Lower Quadrant (Not very south Yorkshire...)
I've also heard that the Farish A1 was released this weekend so i can imagine a Tornado gracing Sheaf Valley Rails in the next few weeks (Depending upon me getting my possible new job [at Rails of Shefff])

Anyway onto the layout itself, sadly i couldn't attend TINGs as Sheaf is currently being exhibited at the Glossop Model Railway Show for the weekend. And for the first time it has performed faultlessly (for today at least lol)

Here are a few pics of the layout just before the show opened

Oh and a bit of self advertising :p

Lets hope it still works tomorrow!

Hi Ollie :) I've just read your thread and just wanted to say a huge well done  :). Love it  Great model and in fact it has inspired me to actually try a bit of N. I joined the forum on Sunday and yours is one of the layouts I keep coming back to. One question: Re point control, I want to use wire in tube with large radius insulfrog points (electrics and soldering really are dark arts to me) and as most long wheelbase modern diesel locos (excluding the 08 which I won't be using) seem to pick up on all axles thus making contact less of a problem can I use said insulfrog points straight from the box? Cheers in advance :) Oh yes. I'll be using dcc.

Hey BCRW26010,

Insulfrogs can be used straight of the box but i would highly recommend you use Electrofrogs. My Electrofrogs are straight out of the box with insulating joiners on the inner rail.

Thanks for that  No more soldering than strictly required :) One other thing: Shunting is my thing and ideally I'd love to use something like microtrains couplings (which I gather they don't do for replacement in NEM pockets). I heard Bachmann are starting a new coupling system which is evidently quite similar to microtrains.   Have I dreamed this?  Cheers again :) Thanks.

Ta for that Poliss. It looks like there are fewer reasons than ever before not to do a little layout  It won't be as impressive as Ollie's - but it'll be fun :)

Thanks for that Poliss :) Well, I've really gone and done it now; 1 Dapol Cl66, two live frog points, a couple of yards of track - just for test purposes you understand! Now I have to learn to solder :'( Waaaaah!! Never mind it will be worth it in the end ;) A small Inglenook style board will hopefully appear in the fullness of time  That's glacial time incidentally :o! Quite looking forward to it really :) I checked out Kato Unitrack this w/e which looked very good but at nearly 50 for two points it's a bit rich for my blood. I think that might actually end up being not far off the cost of trackwork for an entire layout given Peco large radius points can be had for about a tenner each. I must be mellowing with age but even a 4'*2' tail-chaser has appeal  That's new...

I have just realised that Sheaf is over a year old now!! Yaay :D

Anyways i only have a small update for today. Although the Peco shed is a very nice kit i don't think it really looks right on the layout, with this in mind i 'removed it' (with a bit of force) and have begun building a replacement which should look more like the carriage shed.
This is the old one:

And this is where i'm at with the new one:

In other news i have got myself a new part time job....

...In Rails Of Sheffield :D So expect plenty of new stock appearing lol

Evening All,

To start with a few random pics,

37 'on shed' (which is still not finished!)

Mayflower draws past the carriage shed (It's a thomas event!)

Now onto a few updates. First is i've finally got some more glue so i can resume construction of the shed :D, pics to follow as and when.

Next i've bought some peeps to go on the platform as they are looking a tad bare!

And on the topic of people i've been populating coaches again, and also my green 108 (inc Driver)

My Inspection Saloon now has a few transfers on to bring her to life a bit

I've recently bought a few 1/144 plastic kits to have a play with and as my paint arrived today i've got one of them finished off (minus canopy) Everyone builds a spitfire at somepoint, Lancaster and Messerschmitt will follow.

Now the bigger news, i have decided to re-do the loco shed area as i didn't like the concrete effect. This is the how it looks right now.

To finish with, its' the dapol open day tomorrow so i've spoken to a friend who's going to hopefully pick up some bargains for me :D And as i may know already what dapol are or may not be announcing i'm not saying any more :P
