A future layout is in planning that will require specific MK1s so I'm working on picking up the required ones as and when.

@Ollie3440
Let me know if there are any specific ones you need and I'll see if I can help out.

Afternoon all,

A little late in posting, but then that seems to be a recurring theme of this thread! Below are the photos from Wenlock's second outing on the exhibition circuit. This time a Sunday only show hosted by the Monmouth Rotary club.

And as can be seen in the pic of the fiddle yard, everyone's favourite Blue engine was on fine form.

The layout ran very well, and it was also the first layout to be seen as you entered the exhibition. The layout received an invite for a similar show hosted by Ross-on-Wye rotary club, the form should be sent back soon once I confirm availability with work.

Cheers,

Ollie

Afternoon All,

Small update for you all, unfortunately I have had to withdraw Wenlock from TINGs 2017. There is a possibility of a family event around the same time so I've made the decision to cancel now so as not to disrupt the organisers last minute. All being well I'll still be there one day as a visitor and I'm looking at taking Wenlock in 2018 instead.

Cheers

Ollie

Evening all,

Small update for you all today. Wenlock has been booked in for a show towards the end of the year. Saturday 4th November is the date, with Rodington in Shropshire being the location. So with it being approx 15 mins from home to the show this will certainly go down as the most local show currently around!

http://www.ukmodelshops.co.uk/events/15250-RodingtonModelRailwaySocietyExhibition

Oh and I've got a new loco! Managed to pick up a Farish 64XX Pannier for a lovely 55, would have been rude not to at that price! Now I had always intended to run the layout with the two previous locos but the Dapol 45XX has never been the best of runners, the 64XX will replace it and the prairie will become a backup loco.

Cheers,

Ollie

Evening all.

Well once again we have an update that is long overdue! Wenlock had it's third showing at the Rodington model railway exhibition. By far the closest show available with it being around 10 mins from home! Very nice little show with plenty of interest and another couple of invites. A few pics below of the day which was run with the pannier fleet. You can also see the new totem which was purchased from Custom Layout Signs. I've also added a few figures and station nameboards.

An updated list of 2018 shows is below:

Craven Arms 5th May
Ellesmere  11/12th August
TINGs 8/9th September

This will pretty much be the extent of shows for this year due to work commitments but in other news Wenlock will be appearing in Railway Modeller later in the year.

Cheers

Ollie

Evening all!

Just a quick one to mention that Wenlock will be making it's 4th outing at Ludlow Racecourse on Saturday 5th May courtesy of Craven Arms and District Model Railway Circle. Hopefully see some of you there!

Cheers

Evening all,

Must be a record me posting show pics only 2 days after the show itself! Layout was well received and although there was a couple of electrical niggles I was able to operate around them without the public noticing. Pics below featuring a very special Blue and Green engine!

So that is 4 shows under the belt. Another 2 booked for this year:
Ellesmere 11/12th August.
TINGs 8/9th September
There is also a booking for April next year thanks to @Tank

There is some development on the layout too. I am considering extending the layout..... my current plans are to add a 3ft 6in board inbetween the existing two that would double the scenic section. It would simply be a single line so very little changes would be needed wiring wise and it'll simply be there to actually give the locos a bit more space to run!

Watch this space!

Cheers

Ollie

Evening all,

As mentioned in the Ludlow show update, I've been considering extending Wenlock. The current dimensions of Wenlock were determined by the room the layout was stored in at the time of building. Since moving house 14 months ago I do have more space available both in the house and in the car when transporting the layout. Given the basis of the line is a small branch terminus I've never been thinking of going overboard with said proposed extension! Well I think we can now drop proposed as I've decided to extend!

Below is a rough plan of what I'm thinking with an extension...

By adding a second 3ft6 scenic board the scenic area will double in size. Track wise all i plan to do is to have single track weaving slightly across the board, this will give the trains a bit more of a place to go before the fiddle yard which will help when operating as there is that little bit of extra time to prepare the next one out! This has the perk of little track wiring with the only other wires being for an advanced starter signal. As another plus the track in the fiddle yard will be re-laid into a slightly different orientation that will also increase capacity slightly which whilst may not be needed on all lines it'll allow more space to hold the Thomas shuttles!

As far as scenery goes I'm still a little undecided. I know I want the level crossing with the signal box and crossing keepers cottage and for the track to 'disappear' into a tree lined cutting to hide the entrance to the fiddle yard, but as for the rest I'm still thinking. The plan above shows a potential farm? I'm not wanting to just have a plain field but I have time to decide......maybe a few cottages?

As Wenlock is currently committed to Ellesmere (August), TINGs (September) and now possibly a local show in Shrewsbury (October) in 2018 I intend to use the 6 months between these ending and it's first 2019 outing (April) to make the changes to the layout. I already have the wood to make the new board so construction can start in the next month or so but the alterations to the fiddle yard/wiring will have to wait for the above 6 month gap.

However before TINGS I'm hoping to have some form of lighting rig in place. I'll be aiming to have it in a modular type design so it can be extended when the new board is added.

Right, better start building!

Cheers

Ollie

My smaller layout 'Bletchford' is almost identical in having a fiddle yard board, a central single line scenic board and lastly the board containing the station/goods yard/loco shed.
Good luck
