Discovering Britain's Little Trains, By Julian Holland

Book Review: "Wonderfully diverse, eccentric and entertaining" says the review on the cover by Paul Atterbury and he is not wrong. This book traces the history behind some of the lesser know narrow gauge railways. He includes period and current photos and a description of the history behind the lines and what you can see now. Some of the railways are being preserved, some are long forgotten, but all 10 detailed in the book are well presented with lots of interesting asides about the companies and people involved. A very entertaining read, especially as I picked it up at Cromford Mill bookshop for 2

The years have been good to me, it was the weekends that did the damage.

Paul Atterbury, apart from being one of the experts on the 'Antiques Roadshow', is a fairly well know railway author himself.

Is that the same Julian Holland who was one of the NGS leaders back in the 80's - 90's?
