Progress can sometimes be slow at the Despair Depot - I have to cram in my workbench time into what few spare hours work/kids/life allows - but it is always being made... :) Just some of said progress here...

2P 647 is now done (I also "brassed up" the whistle and valves, but after this pic was taken). Rather proud of this one, it's a nice livery:

A Patriot and some Holdens get glossy, ready for lining:

Warships of every hue get ready to have their noses "dipped in custard":

Fiendishly tricky masking pays off for a Deltic and a Hymek:

Agonisingly close to completion - some Southern loveliness:

More soon! :)

Have you considered painting the wheel rims and axle ends on this one black too? - I think it really would finish off the model a lot, and remove a bit of that inherent 'toylike' nature of the UM wheels, and also allow them to match the tender wheels better.

Cheers,
Alan

What do you use for masking? I've got some wagons to do and I don't really know what to use.

Loving the little 2P. Very cute.

I use a combination of tapes - Tamiya 6mm tape for fine work, topped off with Homebase's finest for covering the rest. Sometimes I use masking fluid for brass chimney tops etc to save them getting covered in primer.

Wonderful skills!

Almost seems a shame to put all that effort into the old Grafar Holden tanks given how poor the mech is, the motor was the only half decent thing about them (being the same as Arnold used).  I've always thought the bodies were simple but attractive, it would be great if someone like N-Brass could produce a decent replacement chassis and wheels.  Maybe someone has and I've missed it?

That really is lovely, and it reminds me that I haven't even started on the LMS side of operations yet. I have two or three black 4Ps to convert to 2Ps, but I may get away without having to line them because the LMS introduced a plainer livery from 1927. Still, there's always the S&D locos... ;)

Agonisingly close to completion - some Southern loveliness:

Hah! Is it agony or ecstasy?

More tales from the workbench...

The Southerns are done! Just need re-uniting with their chassis and then they can be packed up and sent home...:

The little Holdens come up nicely with a scrub... glossed and numbered (I've now sorted the silvering on the LMS lettering):

...and with a final coat of satin:

Work on the dock tanks and Warships continues:

Success - nice clean masking lines:

Failure - removing the masking tape tore off a layer of paint and spoiled the masking line, so it's back in the stripper bath for this maroon Warship!

More updates soon! :)

It's hard to get over just how different (better) they look without the gloss varnish on show. Now I really can imagine them trundling along the tracks :)

A bit more progress to report...

The two Warships that didn't need to go back in the stripper bath have got decals on one side (@BramptonBranch - the green one will be your "Tenacious" - hope you like it!):

A humble dock tank gets ideas above its, ahem, station and gets the beginnings of a London Transport livery; a Patriot kit gets a wartime makeover;  and a maroon pug gets some lining:

More soon - wishing everyone a pleasant and sunny Easter weekend! :)
