N N, you hit the nail on the head.
Sense of distance is one thing it didn't have before.
The old ones were just a bit too tall as well once I put a few buildings in front of them.

Once I've built the ground level up and marked out exactly where buildings are going
I can then paint in any more foreground details like fencing.
Probably have to rework the road where it joins in the corner once I have but that's ok.

Yes there is:



I've trimmed the ends of the plastic strip, thats all.



End view below showing the window modifications.



Should be a window in the centre door too but I didn't cut one out.



Couplings are glued in place as there's no room for them to move without removing some of the veranda.

Grey. A sort of GWR goods grey is pretty close.
Dark grey, almost black roof.
And FILTHY as I've yet to see a picture of these in the 1950's in any other condition!

First update of 2012!  :D

The abandoned/disused engine shed is taking shape.



Still work to do on it like making rotten doors!



I've been working on the cattle dock which is next to my goods shed.



Cut down cocktail stocks for fencing posts.



Very thin strips of thin timber for the fence rails and gates.



Painted in Tamiya 'flat earth' acrylic and given a wash of a darker brown afterwards.



Cows and calfs are by Preiser and Merten.
And no, I'm not using the ones with bells on!  :smiley-laughing:



Still work to do one the goods shed itself, painting to touch up and then some weathering.

I'm having to rethink the point control method as the wooden dowel and pin idea is not working too good.
Might look into some cheap servos and cranks, cant use normal point motors as the baseboard construction wont allow them.
(Thats what you get for changing the trackplan!)
Only 6 months now to Kilnevans planned exhibition debut.
Oh, the joys of layout building!  :smiley-laughing:

Well, had a good ponder and read polo2k's thread but won't be going down that road.
I've no where to put the servo's!  :o Great idea though so maybe next time.  :thumbsup:

The point at the end of the run round loop is working fine with the dowel method,
the problem points are those in the middle of the layout in front of the run round loop and platform.
I have some thin but stiff dowel that fits inside drinking straws so I will try using that.
The platform area needs work so I'll lift it and lay some point rodding first.

The two points on the station throat will get the same treatment, surface mounted rodding!
Gonna rebuild the fiddle yard too.
The sliding traverser is too stiff no matter how I try to tweak it so I'll revert to points and sidings.

Upon closer inspection I just needed to align the dowels better and use longer wire to the tie bars!



This is the one on the end of the run round loop as previously mentioned. Gives a bit clearer picture.



The handles are home made from Milliput and a glass bead.
I bought several coloured different bags of them a while back from B&M's for about 50p a bag.



The brown covering is actually bronze metal powder for casting mixed with acrylic glaze.
The idea was that it might go shiny with use but some is already wearing off!
