It is sounding an interesting operation - brand-new vehicles to be ordered from CAF in Spain, featuring a variety of accommodation from en-suite rooms to pod-seats.

According to another forum GBRf are to provide traction using Class 92s and 73s (???!!!)

I'm guessing that the sleeper sets will have an on-board generator car like the Talgos if the above traction options are to work.

The GBRf 73s are currently being rebuilt with bigger diesel engines, so a pair of these working the West Highland is not beyond the realms of fantasy...

Phew... for a moment I was worried they would give the franchise to someone with a history of failure...

The ideal solution would be for them to get The GW Sleeper service as well. Also include an opportunity to increase services where demand can be identified. Maybe Scotland to SW England again.

from en-suite rooms to pod-seats.

Sorry - but what's a pod-seat? :dunce:
Does it mean you can have a pea in them? ???

I presume it's one of those ones you get in the first class on aeroplanes that you can recline and put up a little screen, rather than having separate rooms and bunk beds in the classic sleeper style.

I don't mean to come over all patriotic and that, but I find it hard to believe they can build new coaches that are any better than the mighty Mk3!!!!
Could they not gut a few of those and give them a refit rather than building new ones?

Is there going to be accommodation for Customs acnd Immigration on board? Or will there be a border stop around Gretna? Or will each calling point have its own inspection facility?  :)  :worried:

I have turned down advances by Serco on the aviation front for many years, let's just say I hope they are better at trains than they are aircraft  :worried:

Serco are partners in the Northern franchise, the operator of the Docklands Light Railway and Dubai Metro, and ran Mancheseter Metrolink for a while.  Make of that what you will.

All passengers will disembark at Checkpoint Alex for immigration checks, and to change all sterling into Salmon Pounds  :smiley-laughing:

There won't be much of an immigration check at Checkpoint Alex as the Great Leader wants to
open the door to all foreigners ( Except Sassenachs) . The checks will be the other way as the Great
Leader of England ( Kah Mah Ron) tries to stop the flow of Jocks escaping south.  :D
