After the trials and tribulations of yesterday my 121s unexpectedly turned up today....
and man do they look good. The exhaust pipes are very delicate so heed the warning about removing from the non exhaust end.The detail is first class...especially the underframe and the mesh window behind the drivers cab is a lovely touch. The lights seem a little more subdued and not glaring as with some models and to my mind are probably the best on any model i have. The roof is easily removed to fit a decoder and light bars.I have test fitted a lenz silver mini decoder and it fits nicely although there might be issues with some wider decoders due to the placement of the screws holding in the PCB.Will set up an oval of track to run it in and hopefully put up a short vid later tonight.

i picked up my dummy 121 from the royal mail depot this morning.
its now coupled up to my 2 car 108 for now.
Dapol's BR blue is touch green, or is it my imagination compared to GF BR blue.
Noticed it before with the my Hymek as well.

its nice model, might have to get the motorised version too now. But with likelyhood of lot more GF stuff that I've had on back order  for ages coming either in Nov or Dec, its going to have to wait!!!

Hi

Probably my first post and a query. What's with the silver surrounds to the front windows? I can't find any photos showing these whatsoever.....

I thought that too looking at my 26 v the 73s I have.  In fact, I am glad I didn't end up getting the 121 in blue as I wasn't particularly impressed with the colour of the 26.  Hopefully the Green speed whiskers 121s don't look too blue!

Nor me.. but I figure there will be a more correct and weathered version in a year or so - so no hurry 8)

It seems to me that the shade of blue that they have used depicts the early matt or semi-matt spray gun applied paint. It didn't stand up to washing very well and soon looked very grey-ish. (The richer blue from the likes of GF is like the brush painted blue that quite quickly replaced the spray paint finish.) So their model could be about right for 1977 or 78 if the roof was very black and sooty.

I think I'm going to blacken the roof and add a four character head code for spring 1976 !

I guess another reason for the green tint would be the underlying colour, doubt they went back to bare  metal before going blue.

I once saw one of those Southern EMU thingies that had been damaged by a collision. You could see every layer of paint going back to the original green.

I also recall a class 52 that was damaged and there were 7 (?) different colours from all the liveries it had lived through.

:( i am not buying any more locos or rolling stock now... so no 121 or 101 for me yet  :(

i'm only buying things totally necessary to build my layout. got to ballast all the track, install the signals, build a platform, build 2 bridges, and put up the backscene...

it's so hard not to buy new models or go on ebay... but i need discipline!!!
