I dont think this is n gauge
« on: February 18, 2014, 05:06:32 AM »
hi all,

Well while everyone else here was asleep we had the "privilage" to be up all night playing with our hi rail fire appliance.
Each week we go out "on track" for a run.
Maybe i should get one built by that 3D thingy.
thought i share this as it is not everyday you see a fire engine driving into a rail tunnel

thanks bart

I know exactly where that is! If I was coming from the south (as I would be), I'd rather not meet up with you in the airport tunnel!

Although a Sydney pub might suffice...

Hence, I shall decline the polite offer.

This time.

Hi mate
Yes it is one of the three rail emergency response fire engines based at the Pitt st fire station, with the other two being a rescue pump and a rescue truck

Hi Scott Mitchel
Thanks mate yeh petty lucky. Joined the then nsw fire brigade when I was 18 and got a start with the then State rail fire service in 1996 moving thru rank until I got to region north manager. A change of politics/management closed the Newcastle and Wollongong stations so now we just run out of Sydney CBD as rail emergency response with three trucks one being a Hi rail tender
Apart from there are two other modellers but they model nsw railways in HO. We have a l shaped n gauge layout at work but it is big and heavy so we are doing a new smaller layout. Currently my office resembles a hobby shop with wagons everywhere and my desk a paint shop
And above our station runs the tramlines so plenty of trains
If you are ever over this way do call in

Hey, Bart....!

Could have pm'd you, but thought I might share it on the forum for those interested!

The Port Kembla stack here in Wollongong will be toppled tomorrow! Major demolition!

I did a search on that and it is one big stack to come down.

I hope it goes well for those involved  :worried:

cheers John.

Yeah... when I arrived here in 1974 I was told it was the tallest structure in the Southern Hemisphere, and it probably was.

There has been heaps of discussion here in the local press. Some folk crying about it, for Heaven's sake. Worse still, some of these people calling it 'iconic' and likening it to the Eiffel Tower, or even the pyramids!!

I chimed in, of course to the letters pages in the paper.... tear it down!!! Icon indeed.

Can't wait! My wife works at a primary school not far from it, and I will be taking me SLR with me when I drop her off at work, but honestly, if it ain't down by 9.15am, I ain't hangin' around.
