Cool!

Lovely loco, love the flashing lights!

Rule one obviously applies, looking at it's train?

Yeah,
Rule#1 forever and ever...

Not fair - I love that 251!     I was so close - had one in my basket at Modellbahn Kramm, but then my head ruled my heart.     :-\   :confused2:  :'(     I need to fund my current layout project first!

That's a great looking loco and for a great price too! (It looks almost like an Austrian 1010 in red with white stripe but precedes the Austrian blood orange colour scheme by a few years.)

I didn't know anything about the class E251 and thought it should either be E51 or 251 as the 2 was the DR's designation for electrics (unlike the DB where it was 1). But E251 is correct: the 2 here designated an AC loco for the 25,000 Volt 50 Hertz system (and not the usual German AC of 15,000 V 16.7 Hz). With the computer numbering in 1970 it kept its class number 251.

This was a special livery for the Leipzig spring fair 1965 (why do the fair liveries always look much better than the standard DR paint?). I could only find this photo:

Arnold also made a nice blue version, another Leipzig fair livery on E251 006, as an exclusive model for spielemax.de – although in the meantime it is also available from other sources (seems it didn't sell too well at spielemax alone). They have reduced the price now but it is still much more than the red fair livery.

Thanks for that info Hiawatha. And E251 006 is almost nicer than 002. Almost, but probably not thrice as nice...

Arnold 2287 Class 251 002 DR era III livery (performance red), new from Modellbahn-Kramm.

Fresh from unboxing at work, for better pics see Marco's excellent shots earlier in this thread.

I'm really glad I invoked Rule #1 here, because this is such a pretty loco. The painting/printing is crisp and the roof detailing is exquisitely fine. For the money this really is a bargain. And bonus - I'd forgotten about the free sweets that Modellbahn-Kramm put in every parcel!

Stop it!  Just when I'd convinced myself I can't have one, I'm wavering again!
