Hi Neal,

Was great to meet you on Saturday (Excellent choice in T-Shirt  ). Was fantastic to see Horseblock 'in the flesh' and, as I said the other day, the photos make it look much bigger than it actually is. A very well executed little layout with plenty of operation, amazing how much interest you can create based on trains just 5PCAs in length! Cracking little layout once again :)

Cheers,

Ollie

A piture from this weekends Letchworth MRS show, just before opening. It's not often you catch me out the front! Thanks Mick Boyd from the Luton Club (and former work colleague) for sending me this.

Diary dates for shows in 2015. Here are the runners and riders:

Enfield Town show 27th June

http://www.enfield-town-mrc.org.uk/page5.htm

Chelmsford Show 24th October

http://chelmsford-and-district-mrc.webs.com/chelmsfordexhibition.htm

We are open to offers if show organisers have empty 6 feet square spaces to fill on other dates!  ;D

Latest bookings for exhibition are East Ham on the 7th and 8th November 2015 http://www.ehmrc.org.uk/exhibs.html and Luton on April 9th 2016. If there are any exhibition managers looking for a small gap to fill in their show, we take up a 6x6 square and keep stuff on the move to entertain the paying public. We would however rather avoid any more invite in November 2015 as we have two full weekends already!

I've decided to change from Neodymium magnets for uncoupling and use the proper full size Dapol ones instead. I'd used different sized magnets as the layout developed and these made it difficult to set up the couplings to work reliably. The stronger magnets grabbed the lighter wagons and hauled the opposite end up in the air. This restricted the wagon fleet that could be run.

Operators have been asking for a bigger target area for uncoupling as well. (Well, Jon actually, but he's a good operator so I'll humour him!) this has driven my choice to use full size magnets and not try and hack them in half.

Some pictures of the replacement Dapol magnets with sleeper infill awaiting reballasting.

Jon pointed me over here from the beginners thread, this is an amazing layout and I'll continue to watch with interest, thanks for the inspiration! :)

So HBL got some TLC today with me sorting out some of the wear and tear from taking to and from exhibitions. Whilst it was set up I took the opportunity to test run the stock over the new magnet set up and also try out some new stock.

The lightweight NGS kit wagons didn't like the old neodymium magnets, but performed well on test today. Without the lightbar fitted the light on the front of the wagon works throws a wicked shadow in this shot.

I also found a few missing springs on the Dapol couplings, so replaced them losing as many as I fitted followed by a test to ensure all was well.

A rare bird had an outing in the form of this Greater Anglia 153.

Normality returned when the LM Dogbox turned up later.

Well last weeks trip to the Enfield Town show went well, with the magnets working most reliably (although without us calling on the near impossible to achieve delayed action facility). Just a quick bump to remind people we are at the Beaconsfield show this coming Saturday 4th July.

I read all this thread the other day - Its very nice indeed.

You have managed to get a lot in a small space, without it looking like a "lot in  small space" if ya know what I mean :)

Some pictures of HBL on the road at Beaconsfield today.

It was good to meet the Hoseley Field boys, Portpatrick and others. Jon (PostModN66) and Callum my son did sterling service today in a hot hall today. The Dapol magnets continue to behave in the main. The CDU packed up for a long minute or two which gave us a concern, but it kicked back into life.

Mods, can someone spin the two pics on their side please? They have defeated me!

I always put the wagon and my hands inside a plastic bag when refitting those springs - if they ping off you have a good chance  of retrieving them  :D

Hi Cooper, I'm a very late comer to the joys of your layout.  I haven't seen it before.  It's given me a great idea for the backdrop for my new British layout, with that nice factory behind your station.  Is it a Walthers factory?  I think I may use the same kit.
