Church Street Models, Basingstoke

An ok shop in my opinion with a slightly higher proportion of N gauge than a lot of shops. A few second hand items (I'm usually on the lookout for those) although a little higher priced than I wanted to pay. New items seemed to vary from very cheap to quite expensive. I will go back one day but if in the area and I only have time for 1 shop I'm probably more likely to go to Alton instead.

I fully agree - there is no comparison with regard to space and stock. Having said that David, Church St models in Basingstoke's owner, is a mine of railway knowledge and can talk for hours - A likeable man.

I agree with other comments.
My daughter used to live in Andover so I popped to Basingstoke a few times.
The owner is a nice chap and full of info (and chat).
Donít know if the shop has changed but it always used to be a bit muddly.
Quite a fair stock of N stuff though.
If it looks right then it most probably is right.

It hasn't changed then lol. Boxes everywhere so that there's no room to move. If you want to do a test run you have to move a life sized Dalek (yup as in Dr Who). I don't think he's actually in business for an income at all.

I know David from Morris Minor circles, I think accounting pays his bills and the model shop is a hobby.

Small shops always dearer as higher overheads and less bargaining power but worth it when you want to actually see something for real before you buy, saves a bit of disappointment.

And of course nearest model shop to myself when so many have closed.
