/N/ew member from Massachusetts
« on: June 04, 2011, 10:43:47 PM »
hello all, glad to make your acquaintance. I have lurked here a good many hours and harvested alot of great ideas (and the odd photo  ::) , so I hope to be able to contribute as well.
Ive been a rail buff since childhood, lest say more than 40 years now, my granddad worked as a grain merchant adjacent to a big freight yard, and Ive modelled mid 20th century New England ever since. My father gave me my first N scale trains in 1968.
Since the same time I have always had a great interest in British steam, particularly the early years, as  my sister  gave me a lovely little picture book by OS Nock with color plates called Steam Railways of Britain. Since then I have collected and a substantial library of books about British locomotives and railways.

Ive suddenly made the jump into modelling Victorian British railways. I'll share what I manage to accomplish.

I look forward to seeing your Victorian layouts.
I too am a book collector although my main interest is around the 1950s/1960s and mainly GWR.
My layout is set on a Cornish branch line around 1959.
If you are interested in Victorian railways, have you read the novels by Andrew Martin ?
If it looks right then it most probably is right.

1968...... :o.....i was knee high to a grasshopper back then.

I wasnt much taller, 8 years old

layouts - we'll see.
Ive got a corner filled with clutter at the moment, and a test track.
I want a two level shelf about 12 inches wide with ovals at the ends to make two dogbones, one on the surface and one underground.

What happens when you collect all the false teeth in the world and put them in Boston?
You get a Massachusetts.  ;D

Sorry, just couldn't resist any longer.

I can use that.  ;)

We have one about the State of Maine - how can you be sure the tooth brush was invented in Maine ?

wait for it

if it had been invented anywhere else it would be called the "teeth brush"  :P
