I've made a ton of mistakes already in the two months I've been building my layout. Having to re-lay part of the track due to having a turnout right after a curve, getting the height of my platforms wrong (forgot to take account of the platform itself over and above the sides), not leaving enough clearance around the platforms, putting insulated fishplates in the wrong place etc. I've just resigned myself to the fact that most things will probably have to be done at least twice before they are right.

Keep going, keep learning and above all enjoy what you are doing.
It will all come right in the end.
I'm sure I'll get used to cream first soon.

I think everyone makes mistakes so don't worry about it

The main thing is to be able to laugh about it afterwards. If I didn't I'd probably  :'(
I'm lucky in that I'm taking a break from the 'main layout' to build a smaller one and (hopefully) get all my mistakes over and done with. To be sure, I'm making some :-[

tja, making mistakes on your layout, have you got 5 seconds. : :-[

my advise, start over again en start smal one loop two points, get everything running and working as you want and then add a few bits and pieces.

believe me, I have a bit more experience now, know how to solve or where to look for and finishing my latest additions yesterday I have got a short cut on one point in the middle of a line of points and can't find the problem. So welcome in my ( our world of having a hobby. )

but . if you're down, think about throwing everything in the bin take a second and click op the link below

I wouldn't worry about it chief.  I'm on my sixth layout and I still make mistakes but at least each one gets a little bit better from the experience.  Finish it, play with it, modify it, play with it a bit more then get on xtrakcad and design the one you really want.  :)

Another couple of old sayings for you -

the person who has never made a mistake has never made anything,

and

Any job you can learn in a day probably isn't worth the learning.

We've all made mistakes, even me with model railway experience going back to the 1950s has to undo some work and start again.

Best wishes,
Greg.
