After doing so, hopefully to my final resting place I'll either expand the present layout or start again with something room sized.  Totally impractical at my present location..

Huzzah! :claphappy:
Do you know if this is applicable to both 'upstairs' and 'downstairs' and whether either have a branch of Hattons? ;)

I also bought a Guagemaster back scene today which I subsequently made a complete hash of when sticking it on the ply back wall..After brushing on an even, so I thought, layer of pva glue, I introduced the back scene. This then decided to ridge all over for some reason, and trying to smooth with a rag only made it worse.  Anyway, I had no choice in the end  but to spend  half an hour scraping it all off again >:(  Back to the drawing board.  All good fun, can't win 'em all eh!..

Cheers!, Brian..

Think wallpaper- you don't glue the wall do you?

Only a one bed bungalow at present, but next and final move will will have a 'free room/suitable attic for a railway' high on the priority list..As to Hatton's, I'm Nr Southampton and not in visiting range.  I do not shop on-line, but have a very good shop locally shop as mentioned earlier.

Crikey! it must be 30 years or more since I decorated with real real wallpaper as opposed to emotional paint .  Can't really see me pasting the back scene and offering it up to  the the back board single handed without without getting into a mess either, so for now I've water painted the back board to match the rest, which is woodland scenics sheet underlay mat black.  Just think permanent night scene  :hmmm:

Might try other ideas, such as strip of double sided tape along top, then bottom edge for instance, but I'll leave it for now.  Shame the piece I used/ruined was the center one of three, and the remaing pieces don't match up on the ends. Therefore I'll have to get a new pack altogether.

Cheers!, Brian

Can't be one down below, it wouldn't be hell if there were trains, however theres a fantastic layout in heaven, see Isiah ch6 v1

Think again about going DCC Brian, it does open up a whole new world of operation even in N.  As Di says, all my loco's have sound including Pannier tanks, Jinty's and a Class 08 diesels that is in addition to the larger tender locos.  With DCC not only do they have sound but can also have all the various lighting effects fully working, separately operated front and rear running lights/oil lamps, firebox glow synchronised with the coal shovelling sound, cab lights in diesel locos, you'd be amazed what can be done in the modern range of locos.

My layout is basically an 8 x 4 with a folded figure of 8 but with DCC I can have a dozen trains running at once if needed and with the block detection I've installed they all shuffle round without hitting each other obeying all the signalling, changing points etc.  Trains come off the main loops up to the terminus or through the branch reverse loop, uncouple and toddle off to the turntable, get turned and either shedded or return to the front of the train, all computer controlled if wanted but with manual control as well available.

DCC is not just for controlling the locos, there's a lot lot more than that.

Hope you take a look at Caz's layout.... if you ever wanted inspiration for DCC, it's  right there!  :admiration: :admiration:

You have got to see Caz's video clips to believe it and make sure you turn the sound up.
DCC and Computer control are not my thing but I have to admit I admire the way Caz can shoehorn a sound chip and speaker into almost any loco,

Thanks Caz   and Bealman. I do appreciate where you are coming from and agree with everything you say.. However , I still think taking the dcc route on my present 4 by 2 foot single track layout  a bit overkill, so to speak. If I put multiple loco,s on it there,s no room for the freight cars lol. I will, I hope, eventually have room for a decent sized layout and I will definitely be talking dcc.  Jolly hard writing this on my mobile in Starbuck,s so speak later. Cheers, Brian

The Caz layout is a wonderful piece of work. Really inspiring and is living proof of what I said earlier "DCC is for girlies"!!!  :P  :P
"When in trouble, when in doubt, run (trains) in circles..." etc.
There, doesn't that feel better?
Lovely!

If you're thinking of going DCC in the future its probably a good idea to make sure your locos are DCC ready from the outset. One of the reasons I have for not going DCC is the cost of conversion for a sizeable loco stud.

I believe Hattons will ship stuff pretty much anywhere.

Yeah - I believe Yodel will happily leave stuff anywhere, too ::)
