Thanks all for the contact info, will certainly be giving it a go. A City and a Dukedog?  - heaven.

Hello and welcome aboard.

City of Truro and the Dukedog are not available at present but new batches are expected in early July.  Now would be a very good time to place your order.

I'm sure that you will really enjoy them when they arrive.

If you have difficulty making contact and placing your order, you might wish to mention it here.  Someone a bit closer to the Isle of Man will probably be able to help you.

Best wishes.

John

He doesn't *always* do email though, bless him. Around two out of every three or four emails tends to elicit no response at all, even though they require one. But a call certainly will get a response.

Great advice folks on how to order. Ive never bought a Union Mills before but hear great things on the Forum. Are they suitable for old fashioned analogue DC?

Absolutely - that's how they come (and they aren't the easiest things to convert to DCC...)

As supplied they are analogue DC, but can be converted to DCC. I am a confirmed old fashioned DC operator and have quite a few Union mills locos on my layout, they are not as detailed as the stuff produced by Graham Farish or Dapol, but their haulage capacity and reliability are beyond compare in my opinion.

Regards,

Alex

Perfect for old-fashioned Direct Coal!

I find that a 'Gaugemaster' controller, as suggested by Union Mills, is ideal (it's also 30 years old).

Union Mills locomotives are absolutely wonderful little models.

Here's one:

And you can have the enjoyment of detailing them yourself to whatever level you like. I think I'm somewhere on the intermediate level with this, but then it was my first loco detailing project:

I think you do yourself down - that's a nice little rendition. Only thing I'd suggest is painting the axle ends black so they don't stand out.

That's a very good point - hadn't even occurred to me! That loco is in the queue to have its motor replaced, so I'll do that at the same time. May also have to look at several other locos that have been detailed since that one...

Thanks
Peter

Hooray managed to get through to union mills after a few attempts and have preordered a dukedom and a collet. Better crackl on with getting some track laid so I have something to run them (and the other 16 locos) on.
