Good Morning Smallwonder, and welcome to the NGF.

Great name for a layout by the window, and a fine example of how to fit in a layout when space is at premium. Don’t forget to protect it from strong sunlight when not in use.

Hi Smallwonder and welcome aboard!

A wonderful looking layout developing there. :beers:

That's a really cool idea for your layout! How do you deal with the doorway to the room? :hmmm:

Welcome aboard smallwonder.
I’m looking forward to a few more details about your layout.
If it looks right then it most probably is right.

Thanks for the tremendous welcome. You lot are certainly an engaging (!) bunch.

Early days so far. Fensterbach is a stop on a longer line, but I wanted to start smallish to ensure I achieved something.

Layout is D.C.  Points so far are my patented pencil under the board technique, but I have some motors to experiment with for less accessible areas as I develop.

I enjoyed the comment about sunlight; it's a north facing window in Scotland!   I coud have opened the window last week and got some very real snow.  It does get does late evening summer sun though.

The room also has to serve as spare bedroom, home office and children's playroom.  Some careful surveying of the geography of the room and some amateur carpentry has got me space for the line.  About 18 inches above I have left scope for a mainline one day; the tunnels through the bookcase ends are already there.

Stock will be DB and OBB diesel hauled, mainly Era V; happy memories of interrailing.

Anyway, a tour of the proposed line.

Fiddle yard area under the games consoles. Push pull operations will be handy.

Cornering behind curtains....

..to emerge by the piste.

Fensterbach village (under development).

 The other curtain.

Icy corner.  Ice sheet to be cut to size, bridge to be built.

Tunnel behind computer monitor.

Straight behind the sofabed.

Corner three. Inside curve to terminus. Outside line descends to bypas station.

Terminus site above toy storage. To be loosely based on Oberstdorf. Bypass line descending on left the emerging where red screwdriver is.

The gap. Baseboard joint experiments continue but Lego favoured for precision, ease and availability.

Tv tunnel linking back to the fiddle yard.

Got it? Nope thought not. I'll video when I get a train to do a circuit.

Thanks for now.

Good photos, that's making really progress!

Will it all be set in winter time, or only in part?

Welcome Smallwonder. It's a great idea for a layout and I look forward to following your progress. I model mainly Swiss but anywhere in the Alps is fine by me.
