Wanted - OHE AC EMU Roof.
« on: December 10, 2018, 08:13:30 PM »
To be honest I'm surprised nobody has come up with any of the MBSO roof replacements for MK2 and MK1 to create AC EMUs.
We've got the Cab ends thanks to N-Trains, the Vinyls thanks to Electra, just missing this little thing.
I mean it wouldn't even need to have the panto in the well, as these can be bought (or alternativly, 3D printed - could be 2 of each type, for up of down. Bit of extra cash in ones wallet), but that panto well roof...

I know some (well maybe lots) of people will say "Yeah but they're easy to cut out." You've not seen how "cack handed" I am at cutting things - said it before, "dreaded" electrics are all easy to me, cutting and drawing... Nope.

bh enterprises ?

dart castings / mjt ?

any of these of use ?

BH EMU range is southern, 3rd rail DC based, and non of coach roofs are correct for the job.

Most of the items on dart castings is 00/4mm based, with a very small selection of N gauge/2mm items to show.

Thanks anyway though.

Point me at what you have in mind, I am open to suggested extras to what I already offer.

Hiya Bob, what I was thinking was the roof with for the MBSO part of units. It'd go well with the 302, 307, 310/312, 304/305/308 cabs that you already do. Also it'd save cack handed idiots like me taking a saw to a coach roof.
Simlar to how you've done the roof on your mk3 PTS ( https://www.shapeways.com/product/6XYQ63WBW/n-gauge-mk-3-emu-pts-1-148?optionId=9121260 ).

I have the Class 205 kits, which are very similar to the 304 bodies, I believe. Although I haven't looked very far into that side yet.

I may do some generic roof units which can be used. Rather like I have the generic DMU underframes for early units.

Keep it simple, without roof vents, then people can add their own as required.

That's what I was thinking. Have it as a "one size fits many" type affair. That way it can apply to many OHE EMUs and perhaps fit Lab 6 / Prometheus and the OHE inspection coach too.

I plan to do some research on the roof details for the Class 304/5/8 Wolverton EMUs over the Festive Season and get some guides published online.

There is a Dropbox folder accessible via www.electrarail.co.uk containing instruction sheets - the Class 310 / 312 sheets come with extensive plans for the roof and underframes. I would like to expand on this and create a library of useful EMU reference material. Any help gratefully received.

I've seen the 310/312 guide Adam. If you're 304/5/8 is even 60% as good as it, then we are very lucky indeed! Comprehensive doesn't cover it! It almost makes me confident to get hacking at a mk2 roof!!! (with the aid of Bobs 3D printed roof vent print!)
