Who makes single-deck 1930 or early 1940s uk buses, kit or rtr?
« on: September 08, 2018, 02:11:25 PM »
Dear All,
I have several of the Oxford Diecast Bedford OB series and a Guy Arab but I would like more variety.  The layout is rural so single deck are more suitable.   Does anybody know other manufacturers of either rtr or kits for this period? Regards, P

I have a similar problem with double deckers, I'd like some 1930s Leylands, wouldn't say no to Leyland single deckers as well,  Hants and Dorset ran both. I've seen some in 4mm/00 just wish they could shrink 'em.
Had a look on Shapeways, there are a few continental outline single deckers, no double deckers, maybe we could find somebody interested in doing some UK ones.

P.D. Marsh do a 1942 Bedford OWB

And also the predecessor WLB introduced 1931

Someone also does (or did) a kit for a Dennis Ace, but I can't find a reference for it now...

PDMarsh also do a kit of a Bristol LWL.  Although this is listed as a 1951 bus it had been manufactured earlier for export and it had a very close resemblance to earlier 1930s vehicles in the JO and L series.   It should be possible to back date with some minor changes to the windows, certainly worth a closer look.

In summary for late 1930 and early 1940s single deckers I have :
Two rtr options
  OxDC  Bedford OB
  OxDC  Bedford OWB
Four kits
  PDMarsh  Bedford OWB
  PDMarsh  Bedford WLB
  PDMarsh  Bristol LWL
  Langley     Leyland Tiger TS7
The third and possibly fourth requiring a little work for 1930s versions.
To follow up there might be a possibility in R Parkers range and a discontinued(?) Dennis.

That gives me enough variety to populate a station approach and a few roads.
Thanks for assitance.
Regards, P
