laurence referring to class 126,1956 built with the buffet

mick were they the class 108 dmu you travelled on ?

https://www.railcar.co.uk/type/   may confirm the classes and operations each set were
used on in each region.

The Metropolitan Cammell buffet cars, E59573-E59578, were ordered as regular centre cars for North Eastern Region 4-Car Class 111 Met-Camm sets (built as 2/3/4-car DMUs), but the order was changed late on and the vehicles delivered independently and also worked with Class 101/2 power cars, yet they remained considered by BR as Class 111s. Just one buffet car, E59575, was preserved, first, by the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway who ran it as a hauled buffet car on their steam services, then at Manchester Museum of Science & Industry in 1984 as a static seating area/buffet, where I saw it. By 1996, having never been used in trains, it was sent to MC Metals for scrap, as its asbestos contamination (by now a serious issue) and deterioration in condition meant restoration would be at a high cost. However, in a turn around in fortune, 59575 was saved by Railcar Enterprises, and became one of the very few vehicles to be saved from MC Metals without first being stripped of its asbestos. Restored by Renaissance Railcars, by 2013, it is now preserved and in service as part of a 3-car DMU, at the Great Central Railway. It is the only authentic DMU buffet car running in preservation, the other two being either stored or under restoration.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but this might help about the inter-city sets with buffet cars.

Evening all,

Well tomorrow is Bournville exhibition and the layout is all packed up ready to go!

This will be the first show operating 4 era as we only tried 3 at NGSE. Final testing was a sucess after a loose wire had me panicking that only 1 controller was working for a brief moment!

The show is open 10 until 16:30 at The Hollymoor Centre in Northfield, Birmingham.  Hope to see you there.

One last pic to sign off, pic i took the other week of the whole scenic section in preparation for Wenlock's forthcoming Railway Modeller article on the extension.

Cheers

Ollie
