dapol / farish hsts
« on: August 26, 2011, 07:53:59 PM »
I see that Hattons are offering the farish hst set in cross country at 59 squid.

as a thought, and with all the comments about dapol's "quality" the thought came ........

will the farish chassis fit the dapol body [or vice versa] ?

most people seem to have no problems with the running of the farish chassis, so I wondered if it was a viable swap.

cheers

I have a Farish set, and my Dapol FGW HST is on pre-order. I will investigate if no-one else can shed any light.  I'm not anticipating any problems with my new Dapol HST as reviews seem to be very good on the liveries released so far.  It's a nice idea to see if things are interchangeable though.

Most of the quality issues surrounding Dapol have been in regard to their steam locos. I have seen very few reports of any problems with the Dapol HST and my two run like a dream. Both in terms of running and looks the Dapol HST is in different league to the old clunky Farish version.

Here's one - I had one sent back because it ran so hot it could hardly pick it up - and had a scale top speed of about 75.

Terminal motor problem.

Alan

That's great to know.  I'm looking forward to mine coming next month.  I have had good diesels from Dapol so far, and I'm hoping it will be as good as all my 66's from Dapol.  I'd rather have two HSTs running round.  I guess it is worth knowing if a Dapol one has a problem that it would be possible to put the nicer Dapol shell on a replacement Farish chassis you already own.  But, I'm happy to try it and see and let people know.

Of course, I will be equally happy to try the Farish body on the Dapol chassis for anyone who wants to run their current Farish livery on the new Dapol chassis.

And I've had exactly the same with a Farish HST I bought new - overheated and wouldn't run properly again, had to buy a new motor from Bachmann at a cost of 30-odd quid as it was out of warranty  ;)
