recommended weights for coaches and wagons
« on: August 05, 2011, 10:29:38 PM »
Hi All,

probably put the wrong wording in my search request, but couldn't get anything on this, so here goes.

are there any recommended weights for british n gauge wagons and coaches ?

I understand that for american models there are recommended weights, depending on length, but I haven't been able to find any such info for british outline, or do most people run their stock as it comes ?

any advice appreciated

cheers

Hi  37025,

I use  flat  fishing tank  weight for British  wagons  replacing the  weight that comes with the wagons this being twofold in certain  cases as i  have fitted MT  couplers &  intend to use undertrack magnets  for coupling/uncoupling the original   weight  would  be attracted be the magnet causing problems.

Best to buy the fish  tank   weight  on the roll (10FT)  lasts for  ages  ;)  either purchase here  in the link below  or try your petshop, you might have to file any plastic pegs flush  with  the chassis after removing the original  weight  use  enough  weight to cover all  the chassis  area to   give even   weight distribution.

Hi Upnick,
many thanks for that.

do you use the length if the stock to determine the weight, ie 'x' ounces per inch, or just cut to fit the inside of the wagon ?

cheers

Hi  again,

I usuallly  run the weight the full  length  of the wagon if memory serves me correctly you can  get two widths of the weight  on  most wagons .......   depending on wagons you may find its as easier  to  fit the weight  in the recess of  the wagon  body  underside just check  everything fits  flush &   tidy before glueing  permanently.
