so expensive...

European n gauge is just so expensive...

I had a look and an SNCF BB7200 plus 6 corail coaches is about 350!!!!

Damn.....

I think that rules out an SNCF layout for a long time...

I could never afford European N scale before the advent of Ebay.

Hi Tim,

I've noticed that as well. Ebay may be a cheaper alternative, though.

yeh guess i'll take a look on french ebay....

2 corail coaches for 90 seems really steep though... pretty shocking!!!! i mean these are basic and very common coaches... all i want is a very common type of electric loco and 6 coaches.... yet it costs a fortune!!!!

When searching Ebay there aren't usually many results for SNCF. Just had a look and there were only 24. Searching for 'echelle n' sometimes gets better results. Or you could try 'spur n' for German results or 'n spoor' for Dutch results. :-)

....and switch your search preferences to "available to UK", rather than just "in uk" (forgotten the exact wording, but it's fairly intuitive).
This way it searches ebay.de, ebay.nl, etc.

Be aware that in Holland for example, ebay comes second to another auction site: maarktplaatz.nl, or similar.
Two rails good. Three better.

I must say I was pleasantly surprised at how relatively cheap American N gauge is compared to European. Probably just as well otherwise I don't think I'd have got started.

Sad that the Continental stuff is so expensive but when it comes to American I have found Trainworld in the USA is as cheap as chips.

I suppose I've gotten so used to the prices from Minitrix, Fleischmann (Fleischmann! Wow! They are truly out of this world!), etc... that I almost take it for granted.  Almost...with the poor showing of the US dollar against the Euro (well, everything really) they are now so much more expensive!  A 99 Euro train is now $145 USD!  Compare that to what I could get in American...?  Ugh!   Unfortunately, I don't do American stuff, so....It is making me look at more of the offerings from the UK however!  :)
