Title: GT3 - Gas Turbine in DCC ready and DCC Sound
Post by: KR Models on March 14, 2019, 12:26:25 PM
We are looking to see how much interest there would be if we produced an N gauge version of the GT3 Gas Turbine in both DCC ready and DCC sound?  We will be setting up an expression of interest link shortly.

I thought youíd been collecting expressions of interest for a while?

It has, but we didn't get very much interest, so we thought we would put the feelers out here.  The 'Expression of Interest' we had was a general one, to see which scale and which version of that scale.  Now we will have a dedicated N Gauge one, as the OO gauge one is complete.

When I first tried to express interest I found that it could only be done on Facebook. I won't do Facebook so no expression of interest.

As a WR modeller, I would be more interested in GT1 or GT2 but I accept that is just personal bias.

GT3 is an interesting model but as with Karhedron, I would be more interested in the 18000 and 18100, actually I would just at the chase of acquiring them.

Best wishes
Simon

The link on Facebook would have directed you to a private and secure page where you would have entered your details.

Both GT1 and GT2 are on the 'to-do-list', as the GT1 is in Didcot, this will make making a model of it way easier.

The link is now live for the N Gauge only link for the 'Expression of interest'.  If you have already signed up, please do not duplicate your interest.

Err, it might help if you posted the link?

Hi,

Is there any way of checking if your name is actually included on the list of those who have expressed interest?

The link is still open for the 'Expression of interest' in a GT3 model in N.  We are a long way off having enough interest to make it, but you have to be in it, to get it.

I hope this goes ahead but can't help feeling that it will fall short.

I for one hope that the N gauge version comes to fruition, but I think in the present climate of a certain gentleman going to the wall owing who knows what, I think a lot of people, me included, are more likely to wait until the OO version has actually seen the light of day.

By the looks of things if what you read on other forums are true, some tooling has already been produced with samples due to be shown at Warley, so in theory things are looking good, my guess would be, once there is a physical model out there, then orders for the N gauge version will pick up considerably.

I think itís hard to argue that fact to be fair, there are photos of the tooling!

Photos of tooling for the N Gauge one? Can you share a link, I would be interested to have a look?

Thanks

Nah, the OO gauge one. Iíll be surprised if the N gauge one sees the light of day sadly. Keith was really upfront that he wasnít getting much interest at all in N. Heís announced a second OO gauge model this week too.

Ah, OK.

As the loco was based around a Standard 5 chassis maybe some enterprising soul will make a 3D print available to fit on the Farish chassis at some point. I suspect that would be a more viable approach anyway.

As a RTR loco I suspect sales would be in the hundreds in N so maybe the Market has spoken.

Then again British outline N-Gauge is quite a small market for all the makers, with it roumered Farish & Dapol only doing their locos in batches in the hundreds.

Mind you I will happily accept there is a big difference between 100 & 999, both of which are in the hundreds. :)

I think there are a few barriers to this progressing in N. The market is small (compared to OO), as we all know. This is a crowdfunded project which came out hot on the heels of DJMís demise, when people were probably at their most reticent to invest in total unknowns. Keith has proven rather bristly when asked legitimate questions about the model (on RMWeb rather than here).

If each of those things erode the potential purchasing pool by x amount you donít end up with many N gauge modellers left!

Itís a fascinating prototype, and more manufacturers is always good, so weíll see.
