Hello to all, 64 year old starting first layout, looking at a  4 x 2 due to room constraints.

Any chance you could negotiate the width to 2ft 6in (always helps with the curve radii)

This comment below is absolutely spot on.  My layout is 4' x 2'6" and is (to me) pretty much the optimum size.

If you are new-ish to model railways please think about looking under 'NGF Links' for 'A Beginner's Guide to Model Railways' which is fantastic.

Hi welshman26 and welcome to the forum. My first layout was a 4' x 2' coffee table, so it can be done, but bigger is definitely better,

Been looking and your right 4 x 2ft 6" is best size.
