Title: Use for Shredded Wheat carriages
Post by: stevewalker on November 21, 2019, 12:28:43 AM
A while ago I bought a couple of Shredded Wheat carriages on Ebay. Tonight I have removed the buffers, the wheels and running boards. I have cut away the four ridges across the underside of each carriage and glued on the (cut-down) chassis of two Z-gauge tankers. I now have a couple of bogie carriages to run behind my Nn3 (N6.5) tram engine on the narrow-gauge track on my layout.

The next move will be to add a little weight, paint them and add some glazing, but that'll have to wait - I've got to attend a parents' evening tomorrow night, take my son to and from music on Friday night and go to the Warley Show on Saturday.

The NG coaches sound awesome!

Can we have some pics, please?

Here's a couple.

A lot to do yet, but you get the idea.

I certainly do! I've always liked the idea of a working narrow gauge addition to an N gauge layout.

Looking good

You've just given me an idea for a cheap add on to my layout with a couple of those hacked about in a field to make camping carriages or similar

Yes, they'd work well for that or for a small, run-down, cafe. One of the magazines had an article about one carriage (or was it two)  built onto as a house.

Hmmm, at this rate I may have to drain ebay of Shredded Wheat carriages
