Not being funny, but there are literally tens of thousands of products available on eBay and various other outlets, do we need to start a thread for each one? Obviously if someone was asking about these it’s useful, but a contextless link just clogs the forum.

Have you bought them? Are they good?

So does pointless negative comments.

Ease up mate. It may not be helpful for you, but may be helpful to others.

But at least write something!

“These look good”
“Has anyone tried these?”
“I’ve brought from this seller before, and the stuff’s good”

Is it a recommendation? A request for help? Or purely “here’s a thing”?

If I were a mod I’d delete these threads instantly! It may be helpful, yes. But to that end should I start a thread with a link to every item I find on eBay? May be helpful to some.

It's just a link doing no harm to anyone.

You can click on it or you needn't.

Only person who seems to be bothered about it is yourself?

I'm not bothered by it, just find it pointless. Imagine if, as I said, someone started a new thread for every item they found online.

I may start with the Hatton's catalogue before moving to AliExpress!

They are quite a length so could be useful to someone which is probably why the OP posted the link.
But as others have said, you don't have to click on it...

Of course they could be interesting, but by extension so could everything you find on an online shop, but that doesn't mean it should be shared here.

The continued discussion is more likely to bring them to the attention of someone who may find them interesting, mind! Perhaps RG is on commission  :hmmm:

In the mean time here are other things people may find interesting:

i resent the insinuation that I am on  commission.

NGF is an information resource - the more relevant links the better as far as I am concerned.

I suggest we cool this thread down ASAP

Calm down, it was a tongue in cheek comment.

I agree that relevant links are helpful. Links to random items aren't IMO, why that item? What makes it relevant? Don't say "it's for a model railway". This isn't a webshop encyclopedia (nor should it try to be), it's a forum. But we've had a discussion about it, and maybe someone will need them and be glad of your link.

“These look good”
“Has anyone tried these?”
“I’ve brought from this seller before, and the stuff’s good”

I kind of see the point... A post with a link and nothing else to put it in context (especially when the destination address is masked with tinyURL so you can't assess it before you click) could very easily be somewhere nasty or a phishing scam.

A couple of lines describing the context of posting the link, gives a degree of assurance of good intent in posting the link...
