Post by: findus on May 14, 2011, 11:35:43 PM
Hi guysafter some information direct from anybody who suffers with crohn`s disease!

I have now been in hospital for about a week with this condition, my insides are buggered and am needing an opp to remove the damaged area.

im being pumped up with steroids and morphine at the moment and have been given the option to dry drug treatment first what do you think? waste of time getting fat from steroids just to end up needing the opperation anyway or should i go with it?

Sorry in advance for poor spelling/grammer im not to well and my keyboard skills under drug use seeems very poor

Hi Chris,

Let me just say that I cannot possibly understand or feel what you are going through at present, both physical and mental. I will say though that since I have joined the forum you have been a great inspiration to me and im sure many others with your understanding of N Gauge and Railways in general. You are a mighty fine character and your threads and cheerful comments speak leaps and bounds about you as a person and you are a credit to the forum and hobby,

Im sorry that I cannot help with your condition, but I can help by:

A) Being your mate
B) Being a shoulder to cry on (if you need)
C) Understanding that if there is any thing I can do to help, even though I am in someways a stranger, then I will.

I have PM'd my number and E-Mail to you Chris, If ever you need a stranger to talk to, curse at, argue about niff/naff and trivia or this or that or have a giggle with you are always welcome mate.

We have PM'd before reference the Class 70 vs crane upset back in Feb at the South Welsh Docks....
Chin up Chris 'P' Findus, your a good man

Sorry to hear about the disease you have and my heart goes out to you, I suffer from diverticulitis and that is not very nice and have to keep to a certain diet, personally I cannot offer any advice towards any type of medication that is better in the hands of the medical team, all the very best and lets hope the medical team can get you comfortable with your illness.

Take Care.

Hi there and sorry to hear about your health problems, sadly I cant help with a the medication issue and I guess you can only go with the advice given by specialists.

I had a scare 3 years ago and was told by the heart specialists that I was lucky to be alive, thankfully now I am feeling pretty good and I pray the same will happen to you.

One word of advice is don't search your problem on the internet as a common headache can finish up as a brain tumor, I have done it before and scared the life out of myself for no reason.

Good luck with it all and you can count on the fact that you have a lot of friends on this forum batting for you.

I can't add anything about the specific condition, but I can add something about the steroids. I was diagnosed with large-vessel vasculitis (inflammation of the aorta and everything hanging off it, caused by an auto-immune disorder) back in August last year; the investigation took about 4 months before that. Once the diagnosis was in, just to build up a bit of strength, I was immediately put on oral steroids, and the dose was ramped up to 75mg daily in fairly short order, preparatory to being put on a fairly fierce anti-inflammatory drug. I'm now down to 10mg daily, and dropping steadily. None of the specifics might relate to your condition, but the general point is that I needed the boost to my physical strength. Tremendous support from friends and family was vital, of course, but the steroids certainly helped. I hope to be back to normal (or what passes for normal in my case!) by the end of this year.

Best of luck,

- Michael

Hi all, sorry the replys have been slow and at points not at all, i have read every single message and have felt totaly amazed at the level of care for peopel you guys have.

I have just arrived home from my week in hospital, i have decided to take the drug treatment route to see if this can help sort my condition it will last between 6 months to a year for the steroids to work and do what they are ment to do..

in the meantime i will try my best to post to the full of my potential but as the docs have advised my abilities and cleverness will let me down at times, i hope this wont upset anybody but please if you feel im making no sence tell me so i know and can try and correct the mistakes..

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR CARE AND SUPPORT X X X   :-* :-* :-* :-*

Chris it seems that many of us suffer from illnesses/deseases for which there arnt any magic cures BUTwe can learn by changing lifestyles etc we can lead a reasonably normal life and who knows only next month that magic treatment that will cure us could be invented.
The answer is never give up.........change and fight it the best you can.
Good luck now your home.

Chris, just seen this thread and want to wish you well in your recovery. As someone with a debilitating illness myself I know how it can make you look a bit stupid on the forums at times! Just take it easy and don't try and do too much. Easier said than done I know and I learnt this the hard way. Good to hear you got through your hospital stay though.

All the best.

Hi,

My ex's family all had this awful disease and my friends daughter also has it.

Take it from me try anything you can to avoid surgery. It is very difficult to get the right balance of drugs and will take time to control the condition. It can be controlled but never cured I'm afraid. A number of situations can trigger it and each person is different but stress is a common one.

If it get's very bad then it can end up with a colostomy, not very nice and I hope this never happens to you pal.

Take the drugs and stick with it and hope you get it under control.

All the best,

Cudders

Hi Findus

I'm one of the new guys on the block and I have been running through the old threads today gaining some great info.

Of course, I came accross your Crohn's disease thread with dismay and note that you are online tonight and would just like to wish you all the very best and trust that you are continuing to progress.

It is obvious from the responses that we are amongst good friends on this Forum and it is always good to share a problem with others - especially understanding ones, some of whom have their own medical problems like myself to deal with. I am pleased to note that you continue to contribute and look forward to seeing your comments for many years to come!

All the best mate

Hi Chris

Sorry to hear your news.
I have a brother with Chrones who tried the drug route. So far he seems ok but has to watch what he eats. Also be ready for your body to change ie hair loss and weight gain due to steroids.
I had a friend who ended up having surgery route and still has health problems and was touch and go for a while.

The best thing to do is watch what you eat

All the best

Jon
