Title: Tedious & Boring Jobs
Post by: Caz on November 01, 2012, 06:35:33 PM
I've spent this morning ballasting Peco track and this afternoon soldering 36 awg enamelled copper wire to 20 sets of micro SMT 604 LEDS for use as building lights.  Still got lots of both to do  :'(

I can't make up my mind which is the most boring and mind numbing, they both have nice end results, but just to do either of them sends my brain to sleep and I get to the stage where I just have to do something else  :help:

Wondered what others think are tedious and boring things to do on the railway.

The lights for Langley station and the wiring took about a month on and off because I kept getting bored and finding some other bits to do :)

I absolutely loved every minute of ballasting!

Wiring 34 point motors back to baseboard-edge connectors, then from similar connectors on the control panel box to each individual switch, all with route indication facility - THAT wasn't exactly exciting  :headbutt:

Not really ;) The ballasting wouldn't bother me, but the sunshine would! Only just got rid of summer here (and don't believe the hype about a 'washout' either, we still had TOO many days where it was over 80F  :( ), and glad to see the back of it as usual. Give me grey and rainy any day  :D

The only good thing is that I ran out of ballast today, ordered some from Hattons which will probably be here middle of next week so that means no more ballasting for a whole week  :claphappy:

Grey and rainy, that's the main reason I left the UK  ;D

I'm exactly the same Paul!  I dread any day reaching above 16 degrees C when I'm at work. :worried:  I love the cold and wet. :cold: :rain:

In my opinion there is one job worse than ballasting...

Painting rail sides  :(  just the thought of it wants me to pull a sickie.... :sick2:

Soldering droppers - but mostly because I'm so bad at it, and it's still taking several attempts per dropper.  Painting the rails isn't so bad.  I haven't tried ballasting yet...

Ballasting and soldering I'm ok with, what gets me is cutting up insulated joiners and glueing them to sleepers as 3rd rail insulators,,,,, tedious getting them stuck down,,,,,
