Didn't know if I should post this on either the Happy or Angry threads :D :veryangry:
SWMBO and I spent three very nice nights on an Island with the rest of our family this weekend, while we were away my darling gave me hell because of my plans to dismantle the N Gauge layout and build a OO layout as a replacement, didn't think she had it in her to swear so much
She pointed out that I hadn't even finished the #%))&^@ thing so why be an idiot and wreck it before its finished, she made a point of telling me that I had wrecked previous layouts in the past and money doesn't grow on %^)*@# trees   busted.
She knows that I have already bought some OO gauge gear, she is quite happy for me to return to my original idea and build a OO layout over the top of the N Gauge setup but has told me that all this wrecking layouts and starting again is driving her nuts
She does not understand that old Bs like me have loads of time on their hands and I do not have the space to keep layouts that are very advanced, in the name of peace and quiet she has won, I will be keeping the N gauge layout as a diesel only setup and have a OO steam layout over the top.
Will keep sticking my nose into the forum each day so I can keep up with the technical stuff and of course the banter
My advice to lads that do what I do is don't tell you Wife what you are doing :'( :'( :'(
:laughabovepost: Welcome back ORB after your short break!! Seems your SWMBO is a secret N Gauger :D
Hi ORB,
Glad to have you back.
Know what its like ie money. SWMBO worked from home last week and sod's law 3 parcels turned up for me. I said 'Got a coach for £3.99... bargain!', which was true but didn't tell her what the other 2 parcels cost.
Think I got away with it but as they are Poirot, Miss Marple and Columbo rolled into one I'll probably get rumbled.
Keep the faith,
Cheers Weave
Good to hear you are staying :claphappy:
It seems they way round this is not to take her away for a nice weekend :oopssign:
Sounds like she had too much time on her hands and the brain cell kicked in :veryangry2:, hence the rollocking :smiley-laughing:
cheers John.
Well Dave, I must say I did hope you would pop back from time to time after you had defected to the dark side, but didn't think it would be quite so soon. SWMBO must be quite a gal!
Looks like my bribe to Her Indoors worked, Dave :-X
I'm waiting for 3 parcels, I've been caught out far too many times, 4 packages last week and still awaiting a tomix track cleaner and some more bits usually only costing a few quid at a time. I think the Tomix may have me shot when she sees the Japan Shipping code, along with the DCC Decoder I bought from Dr Al... :(
Glad to hear that you're staying.....despite almost being forced to! :NGF: :smiley-laughing:
I have the same trouble as some of you guys with parcels arriving. I now get them sent to my work address, and sneak them into the house.... The cowards way out, but I'm too tired to argue when I get in at 10pm. :scowl: :D
Thanks for all the replies lads, I am afraid most but not all women understand hobbies.
I told my Wife of the days when I used to build and fly control line model aircraft, I used to fly stunt and combat planes and saw them dive into the dirt quite often, I asked her what do you think I did when that happened, the reply was build another :help: :help: :help:
She is pretty clever and can see the difference between building a flying wing and a model railway :smiley-laughing: :smiley-laughing: :smiley-laughing:
Have to give her credit she can see the logic in keeping the N layout and building another over the top ??? ???
Despite you never having left us, welcome back !
Mrs H also has "influence" regarding my layout usually very encouraging (thankfully) but when the orders from Hattons turn up , the odd eyebrow and rolling pin are raised.
Its Hattons fault they send Everything in large expensive looking boxes even 1 x Base models lorry turned up in a foot long box.

have you considered bolting on some engines and control surface to the railway, i'm sure it will crash and you can then set about building anonther..... :P
Yay! Knew you wouldn't be gone for long. ;D All those letters to Mrs Railbug from forum members must have really worked.
We have a system whereby I don't enquire too much about parcels through the door to the wife, or how much things cost and she doesn't about those to me, and so long as we stay within budget and nothing "escapes" from the room it should be in for too long.
It's worked so far  although I am currently in minor disgrace having taken the dining room table over for almost two weeks for tax returns and then packing Gresley suburbans. Just when I was about to get into the good books again the table is covered in stuff because the damp proofer wanted a bookcase of stuff moved

I live on my own as well, it is my postman who asks when I answer the door and hands me the parcel
"What is it this time, a helicopter, a train or a gadget? :smiley-laughing: :smiley-laughing: :smiley-laughing:
Come in sit down and rest your feet, you're better off here than across the street
Welcome back
:D :D :D I think the replies have been hilarious lads, we don't just have model railways and trains in general in common but us married blokes also use similar ways of keeping the peace when bringing things home or being delivered :D :D :D
Its amazing really, my missus can go out and spend a small fortune on makeup and clothes and I tell her its great, I guess thats just my way of justifying the train stuff I buy but I do get fed up of her telling me to go and buy new slippers or underpants, thats train money :veryangry:
Well i'm off to do some work on my N Gauge layout now so thanks for the replies and a good laugh
Not fully chained up yet (though we are shortly to go to our 6th wedding of the year together...oh er :uneasy:)...however beloved is most encouraging of the n gauge.
This evening she was more upset than me when I missed out on an eBay item. Won't say which one, least one of you fine gents turn out to be they guy I was bidding against (fair game, you got me!), but she was defo more miffed than me.
Lets hope she feels the same when Warley arrives....

Nonsense !!! :o
Who's saying you should buy 'em ? SWMBO, right ? Fine -
she wants you to have them, it's outa
her pot,
not yours !!!
<name removed to stop my SWMBO realising it's me !!!>
Not going to say welcome back as it would appear you never left.
I now always make sure I leave for exhibitions with a box - lots of paper in the bottom, one layer of trains/rolling stock on top. "Stuff for tessting" I say.
Same box comes home - Same layer on top, goodies underneath.
So Far So good, but I think SWMBO might suspect. If I suddenly stop posting - look out for the abituary.
Mr. trainsdownunder. Be careful how you phrase things. Have you not heard of Carry On films! :D

Luckily I have the same non-problem ;)
As some of you will know Clare came to TINGS with me, very good at hunting for scenic stuff for the layout (bought some station signs from Richard's stand that she spotted but I didn't :D ), and points out interesting bits on the layouts.
We also have a policy that whatever money is left each month after all the bills are paid is split 50/50 and we spend it on what we want, no questions. Makes for a peaceful existence :) I keep a full spreadsheet of Layout Costs on my laptop without need for passwords or the like, she can look at it if she wants as I have nothing to hide.
One final comment: when she spent a week visiting her parents in Scotland recently I took the opportunity to have the layout up in the lounge and fully test everything. The reason I waited until then was because it does rather take over the house:-

. . . and that was before I set up the pasting table to put the control panel and the stock-boxes on ;D The night before she came home I mentioned on the phone that I'd better take the layout down, only to be told "you better not, I'm looking forward to playing with the trains when I get home!"
So next day that's exactly what we did, play trains - all in the name of testing of course ;)

Crikey Paul you must be one of the luckiest lads on the forum, if my wife told me she wanted to play trains when she got home she would have to hurry back because I would need mouth to mouth.
In all fairness though she does tolerate my crazy ways and very often asks if I have enough money on me when I go to my mates second hand train shop every Saturday, she just doesn't like me dismantling layouts and starting again.

I don't need lessons in getting on her wrong side. Apparently I'm a natural at it.

I used to get in trouble just mentioning she had 'a wrong side'
Evidently all her sides were good (it says here) :worried:
I love the way some of the female members of my family and friends don't have a good word to say to or about their spouses but if one of the lads say anything the them DUCK :help: :help: :help:
