Well the time has come to completely reassess this great hobby and I guess my mind is made up.
I have been modelling N Gauge for a considerable time and thought of building a OO gauge layout above the existing N Gauge setup, I bought a few OO coaches, wagons and locos and found them a whole lot easier to handle, this is probably because my eyesight is not being what it used to be.
I am at a stage with the hobby where I would really like to work out a good track plan, build the layout and just enjoy running trains which is something I have done very little of, always to busy building.
Anyhow lads I have really enjoyed being part of this great forum and I hope you all continue to get as much as possible out of our great hobby.
Good luck to All.
Don't be a stranger, good luck to you RailBug... 8)
I could say "don't do it" and all that, but we all have personal decisions to make and clearly this probably hasn't been an easy one. The important thing is that you enjoy the hobby, and if that means a move to 00 then so be it ;)
What I will say is that it doesn't mean banishment from here, nothing stopping you dropping in if you have the time. Of course if you post pictures of 00 stuff we'll have to shoot you but don't let that put you off :D
Best of luck with the layout Dave, enjoy playing trains.
Paul
hi Dave
it's sad to see you leaving :ngauge: but whatever you decide you will always have :NGaugeForum: to come back to
best wishes
dave
You're not deserting the hobby and I must admit that I've never understood why some people are anti one scale or the other. I'm just confused and model both! the best of both worlds.
Best of luck with your Modelling whatever scale it is.
Regards
Veronica
Dave - you old bugger, you.
Just because you're going over to the dark side doesn't mean you have to 'cash in your chips' here
There are, and probably will be, many topics covered on the NGF that would help you in the larger scale so stick with us - we won't take the pi mickey - honest :-X
If you do go, we'll welcome you back when you run out of room. >:D Feel free to drop me a PM now and again to let me know you're OK
All the best
NN :goodbye:
Just because you're playing with bigger toys than the rest of us doesn't mean you can't come on here and chat..does it?
Dave you would be sorely missed if you go.
The dark side is full of dingos and rOOs,so you need to come on here for your fix of Koalas and boNdi
Dave,i think we all hope you will be staying on the forum, even if it is only to chat.
Good luck with your new project and stay in touch.....
Will miss your posts, but understand the reasoning behind the change.
I've "lost" two other pals, one to OO and the other to G for the same reason. Dreading that it might happen to me before I complete my layout here. Happy to stay in touch through PM or email if you like.
All the Best
Colin
:( :(
Sorry to hear , keep in touch with us we need or are beyond all the help we can get !
I'm with you Dave, and for the same reasons. Having got the garden sorted, and accidently buying a copy of a garden railway magazine, I like the big scales. It will also give me a room back! I had been looking at some large scale stuff, being sold at the Mansfield toy fair, and whilst quite expensive, I won't need a couple of hundred Mk 1 coaches!
Hope you enjoy working in 4' gauge .. :P
I'd really like to dabble in O or 2' gauge but the bank manager would not be too amused, and the council would I am sure object to a proposal to demolish next door to build a train shed.
Alan
Good luck in OO, ORB. It has been a pleasure to share the hobby with you. All the best.
enjoy your exploits in giant world!!!! as said dont be a stranger even if you are working 00 im sure we can still offer tips and inspiration here and there,,,,,
Good luck with your new direction !
At the end of the day - as long as you're still playing trains, it's all good ! :D
Good luck in your new direction, I will miss your comments and observations :'(
best of luck :)
i don't have great eye sight either and one day i shall probably have to go for a bigger scale as well... so understand your reasons! the trick really is start out with TT and then move up to Z in middle age and N in older age!

Agree fully with this. Whatever scale you're in: cheers! :beers:
Best wishes Dave, be sorry to see you go, but as everyone says, you don't need to be a stranger here. Do keep in touch.

hi Dave
just another thought :o
you could always keep some of your N gauge track and have a 009 scale narrow gauge line on your 00 layout :hmmm:
all the best
dave :beers:
Well I think it has mostly been said and I agree with all the comments posted. :beers:
As long as you have some n gauge, even a bit of track lol) there is no reason to not pop in now and again.
I would like to see your pictures of your new stuff as you progress
cheers John.
Having recently joined a club which is almost entirely OO and G, I have dug my old Airfix and Mainline collection out of the attic longingly. Having recently read a few articles about outdoor OO, I am deciding to stay indoors in the winter days with N, and have a massive outdoor loop for my old OO collection. I am even thinking of selling my own soul to the devil and going DCC in order that I can run a number of trains on the same track and thus avoid points and all such complications.
Has anyone tried fitting modern chips into 30+ year old loco's, or have experience of outdoor DCC?
John T
Hi oldrailbug,
Sure you not really leaving us forever but sorry to see an oz dweller going as I get most of my replies from you lot in the morn here when I'm too lazy to go to work on time!
Thanks for replies and good luck with the OO.
Take care, Cheers Weave.
Stay in touch Dave. You're always welcome on here.
Hey ORB Dave...
Yeah, the Antipodean sun does strange stuff to ya. I know - had a skin thingy cut off me head a month ago, but I still refuse to wear a hat like the aussie sooks. Makes yer head sweat. But there again if I did wear one and me head did sweat, I might start thinking as clearly as my eyesight should be. However, I have a big investment in N and a layout to finish, with probably too little time, if I don't start puttin' that hat on.
So best of luck with the new scale, mate, although after being with N for so long I actually find the 00 models to appear toy-like, no matter how detailed they are. But as it has been said in this thread already, railway modelling is the go - doesn't matter what gauge. Cheers, mate... and being stuck here in Oz ain't that bad, eh.
All the best in your new venture!!
:beers: George
Don't disappear! I have only just joined this forum, but also do OO and O gauge - even three rail Hornby and the old O gauge tinplate stuff too. There's room for all of it on here, although I think I hear the sound of hollow wind and the tolling of a distant bell as I type this... :uneasy:

You forgot the tumbleweed rolling across the screen >:D :D
LOL :D
Just remember that O gauge is just like N gauge when viewed from far away!

Good luck with the new project, Dave.
Please buzz in from time to time to let us know how you're doing.

dave
Who?
Yup what she says goes :veryangry: :veryangry: :veryangry:
Just kidding because SWMBO thinks I should be part of the female species the way I change my mind :heart2: :heart2:  really its all about space I just cant do anything decent with OO Gauge in just 10ft x 5ft so I decided to build another N Scale Yankee layout.
Off to my usual Saturday morning visit to my mates second hand model train shop to see what he has in stock then I will come up with a theme, location and railroad system, all this while I sit an drink cups of tea with other mates and try and solve the worlds troubles and talk about trains

Hi George, the shop is actually a large backyard shed located in Tingalpa a suburb of Brisbane, he has by far the largest range of model railway locos and rolling stock in Brizzy, mostly second hand but also quite a lot of new stuff.
There is a group of us that meet each week for a few cuppa's and a laugh, John runs his shop the way all model train shops should be run with the Refund, Repair or Replace policy with no questions asked, a few of the other cronies that sell model trains in Brisbane need to follow his example.
If you buy the Australian Model Railway mag he advertises in the shop directory at the back.
Shame I don't live nearer - bet you have a great time.
:envy: :envy: :envy: :envy:
Just got your entry. Brizzy boys, eh. Cool!
