With just a couple of weeks to go I wish everyone the Christmas they'd like, and may Santa bring what you desire. Come back safe and sound to the forum for what will, hopefully, be an exciting 2026. Certainly if my pre orders turn up it will be an expensive New Year for me!!

Thank you to
@Tank for running the Forum like clockwork, all the mods for keeping us in order, and everybody else for good company, sound advice and fascinating information (with special mention to
@Train Waiting and his excellent 'Coarse Guide' which was so brief you may have missed it).
All the best for 2026.

Chris, you used the W word and the swear filter didn't spot it?!
Luckily, this year I'm off from Christmas Eve and return to the bosom of the NHS on January 5th. I've just been given £65K to buy my team a new machine that helps us fight blood cancer, so I am a very happy bunny this Christmas.
Merry Christmas one and all.
Worked Christmas for about half of my working life..
Not any more....
I'm retired..
Our concession to Christmas day is no house work.
The turkey and everything else for the meal is cooked sliced and waiting in the freezer..
That will be walked off by a stroll on the beach with the dog..
Merry Christmas to you all..
Merry Christmas everyone.
We don't do traditional Christmas fayre preferring to cook something from different countries around the world each year. This year it's tagine.
In our case the stroll along the beach, or more likely the sea front and sea wall, will be before lunch. Unfortunately, of course, there will be no trains to watch as we stroll.

That's like that line from Hancock's Half Hour from many moons ago:
"I thought my mother was a bad cook, but at least her gravy used to move about!"
:food: :sick2:
Cheers,
Chris

That sounds like an ideal day, I hope you enjoy it. Sadly, my old dog can't walk on the beach these days, but we are also after a minimal effort meal with a short walk with her afterwards.
My best wishes to all NGF members, I hope you all have a good time over the break. I also thank all those moderators and others involved directly with running the forum - greatly appreciated!
Any members in the Milton Keynes area, or even further afield, are welcome to contact me if they would like to visit the Silver Fox clubrooms in Wolverton on a Tuesday evening.

In Healthcare it is "Unregistered Assistant Practitioner".
Scientifically, it is "Unidentified Aerial Phenomena" (formerly known as a UFO...)
So either you're getting some untrained stand-in fat bloke in a red suit, or a wish that you spot a Reindeer-powered Aerial Gift Distribution Vehicle...

Hi all,
Hope you all have a wonderful time over Christmas, plenty of festivities, and playing/testing of trains, and of course watching the boxing day test.
Dont get too sunburnt. (for those in the S. hemisphere).
cheers
Graham
Past NGF contributor, dats475, would exclaim N, N, N at this time instead of HO, HO, HO for the followers of the larger scale :D.
All seriousness aside, may you all have a beaut Xmas.

Seasons greetings to all. I'm hoping there'll be a few others in the residents lounge this afternoon. Not seen anybody since the cleaning lady on Monday - the joys(?) of living in a retirement block of flats at age 91!
Oh Mike, I really hope you're not on your own today. Doesn't anyone provide a nice Christmas dinner? We'll be thinking of you.
All the best,
Chris
Merry Christmas to everyone from the left coast of Canada.
I don't post much at the moment, but I just wanted to say that I really appreciate you all, and that this forum is a real bright spot for me.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful day

No one currently in the lounge (16.15) I'll try again this evening, currently drowning any sign of sorrow with a glass of mead.

I certainly hope that someone else ventures into the lounge this evening to add a little brightness to your day.
Mead? I'd be in there like a shot! :beers:

My available choices are Mead, Advocaat, Bacardi & Coke, or Harvey's Bristol cream sherry, the Advocaat is mainly a substitute for custard on the Christmas pud or mince pies.
Nothing wrong with a drop of mead :beers:
This is my favourite, avaliable from my local conveniance store

I only tasted mead once, in Russia of all places. It was OK, except for the bits of beeswax floating around in it.

I get mine from Amazon these days, I used to get it from the makers Lyme bay wineries near Lyme Regis on our way to or from Cornwall holidays.

Big fan of Lindisfarne mead although it's quite a bit different in taste to a lot of mead being about 14.5% and very sweet.

Photo taken on Lindesfarne itself (Bealman's 2023 UK Adventure, page 11).
I get my mead from Amazon these days, brewed by Lyme Bay winery, used to call in there on our way to holidays in Cornwall, they do a good scrumpy as well as some typical farmhouse wines.
I love mead, but Mrs P doesn't so I haven't drunk much of it in recent years. It's on my banned list now anyway. Ah well. Sigh.
@Dorsetmike enjoy! :beers:
Cheers,
Chris
Last time I had mead was at a medieval banquet at Coombe Abbey some 40 years ago. I suspect, like Chris, it would be on a banned list for me now

Similar feeling here except it's turkey casserole, maybe I'll try adding some curry paste to prevent it getting monotonous.
