Title: Possibly selling up........
Post by: Dickydcc on November 20, 2025, 03:33:50 PM
So, just as the thread goes up about bargains at Kernow muggings has lost his mojo and might sell up!
Anyone suggest a dealer that isn't going to cut me legs off?
Am just starting to put a list together, so if anyone has a want now is the time to ask. There's about 25 locos, half a dozen with sound and at least 50 coaches.

Leave it a few months and see if the mojo returns?   I've had long periods (up to a year) where model railways have been left alone, but I always come back :)

Probably not a large enough collection for dealers to fall over themselves to get it. If you can be bothered to take pics of your items you'll get more by posting them on the N'Porium. Maybe group similar coaches to make up batches.
Dealers will want to make a profit. Private buyers won't (shouldn't)

Great advice.

If (when?) you decided to return to the hobby, you'd almost certainly regret selling.

And things always seem to be worth so much more when you're a buyer rather than a seller.

Why not leave your trains somewhere safe and go off and do something else for a while?

With all good wishes.

OK so I'm now modelling in OO and N, because OO gives me the opportunity to complete a layout more quickly and to explore DCC sound. It's like a new girlfriend. N is quiet for me now.

But selling stock, I'm sorry to say that the NPorium gets lots of looks but nobody bites (unless the buyer really wants it or you underprice it).

The same stock sells on EBay at higher prices. Honestly it does.

So what does that say about this community? Even users here buy from me on EBay rather than here?

Or you know me and trust me and just buy from me directly. Because you know I won't let you down.

I'm afraid that most buyers just want to feel they have done over the seller and made a killing, whereas for me, a sale means we are both happy about the deal.

So hang on to your kit. Or be ruthless when you sell it.

N is only quiet because you're doing sound in OO  :D
