Title: Point Motor switches
Post by: Alexph on July 14, 2012, 08:04:42 PM
Hi

I am using Fleischmann point motors on a new N gauge layout.  I want to control the points manually, rather than through DCC.  I was thinking of using a toggle switch linked to a bipolar led to indicate which way the point is.

Can anyone advise me if this would work and what is the best type of switch to use.  I was thinking of on-off-on, but then wondered if that was in fact correct.

Thanks

A

I'm not familiar with those point motors, but Peco and others use 2 solenoids to pull the point bar each way. They should not have a continuous current running through, otherwise the coils burn out. Using a CDU and a momentary contact is what is required.
