Title: WD40 Hack worthy of Tic Toc
Post by: Bob G on August 07, 2025, 11:16:57 AM
I just discovered that WD40 is perfect for removing the sticky residue from those labels that manufacturers love to put on clear plastic rolling stock jewel cases.

You know the sort. The ones that say "Returned Stock. Sold as seen", or "This chassis has a 3.4V motor and should not be used on a 12V supply".

You know it is. That's why you bought it. But now, after peeling it off and scrubbing for 48 hours to no effect, you can now soak it with WD40 and all will be well.

Hazzah!

Not sure how to tell you this Bob...

...that's kinda old news!

My preferred option is Surgical Spirit.

I use a cheap 'Sticky Stuff Remover' and it removes a sticker's residue in seconds

Yup been using WD40 for that sort of thing for decades :) Almost as good as proper surgical sticky tape remover stuff (which I've got a can of somewhere but can never find :) )

WD40 also works to get fingerprints off stainless steel surfaces.  Think kitchen appliances, DeLorean, etc.

You can also use it to get chewing gum out of your hair. I'm not sure quite how you would get gum in your barnet, but if you ever do, WD40 is your friend.

Actually, I'm thinking that every Monday Zoom is like looking at a carton of eggs for a couple of hours.

Hmmm, maybe it's time to "slap" this thread into the locker and close the door on it  :smiley-laughing:

Just drop it on the floor and we'll never find it again - until we're looking for something else  :smiley-laughing:

Not a good idea in general for kitchen equipment. WD40 is really not something you want even the residue of anywhere near food.

Still at least it's not weeding, which many years ago was what a rather crazy friend used to use it and a lighter for.
