Title: Cool Welsh fella
Post by: Bealman on July 11, 2025, 10:10:32 AM
For some reason, I found this cool. Probably because of the Triang Super 4 points and motors :-[

Or possibly the condescending attitude of reporters of the day.

Lovely! A real reminder of how fun trains can be.

I particularly liked the Rocket racing a Castle.....if only!

"Don't talk to me about diesels!"

What a wonderful programme - my kind of thing. Thank you for posting it.

The signals might be '0' gauge (or even Gauge 1) but they work.

Didn't the trains run well? I believe if the operator is wearing a tie, the trains will perform better.

By the way, the polo-necked presenter chappie is vaguely familiar.

Thanks again and all good wishes.

John

Looking at all the clutter I was wondering if "James the Trains" might be a distant relative of Mr Trebus

Well, that was a great watch.
Reminded me a little of the chap who used to run the model railway and shop in Tavistock, he was still going strong in his eighties, but had shut the shop. He invited me into his home after I had mistakenly knocked on the shop door (which was in his outbuilding) and he had a great big O gauge set up in his living room, which I believe extended into the dining room. Years previously I had relieved him of a troublesome Triang Hymek in the devil's gauge, which it transpired just needed new pick ups on the back bogie, for just a few quid. Although he had no time for diesels he was a lovely bloke.

Well that was an absolute delight, and touches on the peace and calm that comes with our wonderful hobby (though I think hobby might be too tame a word for many of us!). I think thats how my house would end up if I were single!

Another wonderful coincidence (despite also being a Welshman like this tremendous gentleman) is that at 2:33 there is a carriage clock on the mantle, and as I sat here watching the clip, I'm looking at its clone (my Mothers brought with me from Wales) on my mantlepiece too!

My day has been immeasurably brightened!  Thanks so much for sharing this!

What a delightful old fella, and an inspiration to us - seek ye happiness where ye can!

@Train Waiting
He must be famous or something. He has his own website. (I bet he doesn't have trains!)
