I'm sure we all have a few favourites, but, for me, hard to go past these 2 from Sydney 2000.

Ian Thorpe, swimming 4, had won the 400m freestyle only an hour earlier.

Now that's bringing back memories! Went to the stadium for events on two occasions, and my daughter was in the opening and closing ceremonies.

Which Sunderland was that? What's his first name?
FA Cup - Terrible name for a prestigious competition. :D

That never happened
Oh wait a minute I was there!
England winning the world cup in 1966.
Did you get your hands on the commemorative postage stamp overprinted "England Winners".
I didn't :(

Given my moniker on here it has to be:
"Arsenal come streaming forward now in surely what will be their last attack. A good ball by Dixon, finding Smith, for Thomas charging through the midfield! Thomas, it's up for grabs now! Thomas! Right at the end! An unbelievable climax to the league season"
Liverpool 0 Arsenal 2, 26th May 1989
And I missed most of it because my wife had arranged a dinner party! Needless to say I do remind her of that at times..

Being at the IoM TT in 1978 when Mike 'The Bike' Hailwood made a come back after an absence of 11 years and won the Formula 1 TT Race on a Ducati - hugely emotional
I'm not really into athletics but I think mine is Jess Hill winning gold at the 2012 Olympics and the Super Saturday.
She was the face of the Olympics and had the whole country just assuming she would win gold which, being British, usually results in heroic failure.
Going into the final round, the 800m, she just needed to jog round to win gold but blew the field away in the home straight. 3 golds in 45 minutes in the Olympic stadium, great viewing.
This is a very difficult one.
As some will know I'm a Bristol City fan who has seen them play well over 1500 games in 60 years.
If I had to pick a match and moment it would have to be Mansfield Town 4 - 5 Bristol City in Nov 2002 (League 1 as it is now).
The moment would be Christian Roberts with the winning goal in the 95th minute.
It was one of those goals - a thirty yard screamer that you just knew was going in as soon as the ball left his boot.
As for the match it was an incredible finish. Mansfield led 4-2 in the 88th minute before City scored 3 times to win 5-4.
The roof nearly came off in the away end at Field Mill that afternoon as Roberts scored that winner.
It's niche, but this run by Danny Hart in the downhill mountain biking world championships is stunning, particularly the commentary, and the passion from (ex-world cup racer) Rob Warner.
Secondly (and in similar vein), Mark Cavendish's first stage win at the Tour de France in 2021. The most successful sprinter in cycling history, who'd had 5 years in the doldrums and suddenly (and arguably unexpectedly!) sprung back to the front. I particularly love how many other riders rush to congratulate him, and the pure emotion from Cav himself. The ITV commentary at the time was excellent, the commentators simply not knowing what to say, but I can't find that on YouTube.

Then you may not agree with one of my best football memories as a Brighton supporter. The match was awful, a penalty won it but it was a great day out at the Millennium Stadium and Brighton actually won a playoff - 30/5/04

It was indeed a dire game which from my point of view was soon forgotten.
The 1973 South African Grand Prix.
Mike Hailwood, on his second attempt and despite having been on fire himself, pulled Clay Regazzoni from his burning car.
Ever modest, 'Mike the Bike' afterwards said, "Any fireman would have done it."
He was awarded the George Medal, the second-highest British civilian award for gallantry.
With all good wishes.
John
PS Sadly, Mike Hailwood and his daughter were killed in a car accident quite soon afterwards. They were driving to get some fish and chips.

Quite soon? I saw Hailwood at the Easter Bathurst Bike races in the late 70s (It was later than Easter 1976 because I didn't get my Nikon until later in the year) and I photographed him racing across the top. He died in 1981.
