Title: Royal Train Loco Insignia
Post by: GlenEglise on June 30, 2025, 08:28:31 PM
The current Royal Train recently renewed the franchise with DB for traction etc.

Both Class 67 locomotives have been given new insignia in relation to King Charles III. In addition Queen's Messenger has been renamed King's Messenger.

Is anyone aware of a source of new etches/Decals for application to the Dapol Class 67 locos?

I have tried searching buut got nowhere, tried Railtec and Dapol also but no luck.

Any help?

Have they actually been done? I can only find one article relating to the fact they were going to be repainted, but not a single suggestion they actually have been.

It would appear so!

Literally in the news today that Charles supports decommissioning it. Not sure you'll get many people falling over themselves to do new etches! Presumably one has been renamed "King's Messenger" too?

Yes, Chris, we all have Google! The 66 is nothing to do with the royal train FWIW.

Well, it is a reality whether there is a wish to decommision it or not wherever that story came from?

Just seemed an unfortunate symmetry. Perhaps someone like Narrow Planet for custom ones? You've got decent photos.

I am not sure why you suggest that.

Locomotive nameplates etc. for steam and diesel locos abound and most of them have been scrapped. As the last example of a Royal Train surely that would make it an outstanding candidate for replication of the insignia and nameplates.

Just my thoughts.

67s are being scrapped as they have no revenue earning work. Whilst anything with a Royal insignia will always be popular there's a good chance these won't see any more front line action and will quite likely rot at Toton before being chopped up!

The most obvious candidate would be Shawplan - they do a set for the existing loco(s). The frustration is how hard it is to get hold of Brian to actually order anything, let alone make an enquiry about whether he'll be updating his etches!

Yes, 67's sadly getting disposed. Seems nothing lasts long these days.

The Royal Train being rather long in the tooth was a candidate for disposal and cost of replacement and ongoing costs would be crazy.

I am happy to email him and give it a try, you never know, it may be a possibility.

Thanks

For whatever reason it's only 67006 that's been done. 005 still carries ER insignia. Presumably as part of the renaming of 006.

You wouldn't be the first to get a reply from Brian, but it's a rare occurrence!

Just a shame they aren't suitable for the GW sleepers, as the reliability of the 57s has been shocking of late. I wonder if TfW will take any more of them?

Brian replied stright away to me and I have sent him photographs so I will await his response.

I think you may bem mistaken as 67005 is renaimed King's Messenger with the King's Crest and cipher.

67006 is Royal Sovereign.

Indeed, other way around! Certainly last week 006 still had ER insignia.

67006 is Royal Sovereign and 67005 is now King's Messenger.

From your posts you seem to have the two confused.

From DB Cargo Press Release..... "Livery changes for the two locomotives will include a change to the Royal Cypher and 67005 will be renamed to King's Messenger.

67006 will have a new Royal Cypher, but will keep its current name, Royal Sovereign."

Await and see,

GE

Yes, I transposed the numbers, like I said. I was simply commenting that as at last week Royal Sovereign still has ER insignia, they haven't done both. Perhaps they will, but they haven't yet.

What on earth? Did you read the post preceding yours?

I have provided literally the only assistance to you, recommending Shawplan as an option, and also Narrow Planet as a purveyor of custom etches.

Wish I hadn't.
