Title: RIP Brian Wilson
Post by: Papyrus on June 12, 2025, 08:52:35 AM
Another good man gone...

A tortured genius, but a genius all the same. He wrote and produced some amazing music. The Beach Boys appealed to me more than the Beatles did in the 60s, painting a vision of an idealised California that I was never likely to see. Everybody raves about Pet Sounds, but Surf's Up was my favourite album - I still have a dog-eared and much played vinyl.

May he rest in peace.

Cheers,

Chris

One of the great visionaries of modern music.

Like @Papyrus I rated The Beach Boys above The Beatles of whom I was never much of a fan.

We saw Brian Wilson at Glastonbury in around 2008 with his band although it was uncertain how much of a role he played that afternoon.

Yes, a troubled genius who will be sadly missed.

Most probably the only musician that the Beatles considered superior to themselves....

I remember seeing hime and the Boys life on a rainy day, They gave an open air concert in Switzerland. The Band before them played under a drizzle of rain. Then the Boys came on stage, and started to play.... and the sun broke through the clouds and sent its rays onto the stage.  ...What else?...

For me too, the Beach Boys ticked my box more than the Beatles at the time. They inspired me to build myself a plywood surfboard that I tried out in the chilly waters of the west coast of British Columbia. Not the greatest !

RIP Brian, your music lives on.
