Title: No Javelin in n gauge
Post by: Le Night ferry on January 27, 2025, 11:01:12 AM
Quite surprised that there are no Javelin in n gauge.
I've seen someone repainted Kato's 885 into Javelin, but not class 800.
Did someone managed to make this?

There is a familial resemblance between the Javelin and the IET but the difference in coach length is massive. The Javelins are 20m and the IETs 26m. Not sure if any of the 3D print guys like CMAC have tackled the 395s yet.
Due to the lack of variety in the fleet and limited sphere of operation, I cannot see any RTR models appearing, unless Kato have a go.

We could mix Kato's class 800 and shinkansen class 400.
Class 400's coach length is almost same as javelin.

But they're totally different trains...? You may as well just use mk2 coaches, they're 20m.

The 395s (and 8xx) are based on the Hitachi A-Train model. You may find a Japanese prototype more akin to the 395. I can't see us getting one RTR.

Japanese shinkansen class 400 is original version of javelin, so it is more similar than class 800.

They're made by a different company, and bear no relation to the 395 that I can see?

Shinkansen class 400 is also made from Hitachi.
I heard that it is base of Javelin and Azuma...

Again, the 395 is based on the Hitachi A-Train. I believe the specific variant which is closest to the 395 is the "White Sonic" 885, however even those are substantially different, they have exposed underframe details, and a cursory glance shows they're still different lengths.

Wikipedia page for the 395 suggests it can trace some design pedigree back to the 400 Shinkansen and the A-Train, though how much is unclear and doesn't imply they look similar externally.
