Title: Axel will not stay on the chassis
Post by: geofff on January 15, 2025, 07:11:54 PM
Advice needed please,

I have a Farish goods wagon (Box wagon) 4 wheeler. One axel keeps slipping from the chassis. I've tried a number of times, but the axel will not fix into the frame hole. Is there a fix?

Regards

Is it an original wheelset or has someone tried to replace it with a different brand which doesn't fit properly? Any damage to the axlebox?  If it is the correct wheelset and the axlebox has somehow bent outward, it can probably be warmed and pressure applied to bend it back into position.  Sometimes having the axle out of position for a while and jammed between the axleboxes can cause deformation.

Post a clear photo of the problem?

Thanks Nick

The support for the hole where the axel fits is quite bendy. I'll try a small piece of plasticard over the hole.

Swap the wheelsets over. If the okay wheelset drops out in it's new position the problem is the axle box. If the set that dropped out also drops out in it's new position then the issue is the wheelset.

Bazza thanks for the reply. Your test has proved that it is the axel box. I've now removed the wagon body from the chassis and see how to proceed.
