Title: Sam And Ella
Post by: dannyboy on December 20, 2024, 01:12:46 PM
WARNING - Do not read this if you are having your lunch!
I guess you, (well, one or two of you), have been wondering where my posts have got to over the last week. Well I will put you out of your suspenders. In the early hours of last Saturday morning, (14th), I woke up with excruciating stomach pain and had to run to the loo – and another three times before I got up and stayed up. During the rest of Saturday it was more of the same, a quick trip to the loo every hour! (Put a biscuit in one end and out it came the other end within minutes!). It was the same on Sunday but I was sick twice as well and, without putting too fine a point on it, I managed to get to the loo but it looked just like the diarrhoea had come out of the wrong orifice!  :sick2: .  It was numerous trips to the loo on Monday, so first thing Tuesday morning, I telephoned the Doctors Surgery. "Come straight down" was the command. So off I go and was seen by the Doctor. After listening to my tale of woe, a bit of prodding about and putting his cold stethoscope all over my abdomen, he said, "This is serious, but the good thing is there are no lumps"  ??? . He did suggest a trip to the Hospital as he thought it might have been Sam and Ella, but I told him I did not think I could manage the 40 mile journey. Anyway, he gave me some tablets and sachets of stuff to replace the electrolytes and other things I had lost from my body and to start with an emergency double dose when I got home, along with the order to come back the following day if there was no improvement. Fortunately there was some improvement which has been maintained. Over the last six days, I have had 4 x half tins of soup, a slice of toast and a few biscuits - and don't think I have kept any of it!  . Louisa did not go to work on Monday or Tuesday for some reason. I have been out this morning to do the shopping, (and did not feel the need for the loo), and on my return, I had one of those single porridge portions made by Mr. Quaker – and kept it in!  ;).  Fortunately, Christmas dinner is not until next Wednesday, so hopefully I will continue on the recovery road and will be able to manage some.

So the point of this rambling missive is to apologise to everyone, some of you, okay, the one or two of you who like to read my 'groaners' and other pointless posts and say that, full service should resume over the weekend.

Incidentally, I can not recommend Sam and Ella as a diet means. . Take care of your health everyone, we all need it.

P.S. I have so many unread posts to read, normal service might not resume this side of Christmas!

Funnily enough those are the exact symptoms I had before I was admitted to hospital with Covid.

What a horrid encounter.  Take it easy - plenty of rest and liquids.

The typical incubation period for most types of Salmonella is 12-24 hours and having both d and v is par for the course.  Headaches as well.

Lunch on Friday 13th is the likely culprit, although dinner on both the Thursday and Friday are possibilities?  Did the doctor take a 'sample' for analysis?

I hope you feel much better very soon.

With all good wishes.

John

Take care David.

I would normally recommend copious glasses of whiskey (e as you are over the sea) as a cure all but maybe just water for now.

I hope you feel much better soon.

Cheers
Martin

Suggest you desist from playing the Roxy Music song 'Both ends burning'

Thanks for the comments.

@Malc why don't you try and cheer me up Malcolm?  ;)

@Train Waiting John, we had bacon and scrambled egg on Thursday and I had a shop bought chicken curry on Friday. Eggs and chicken  :hmmm: . And no, the Doctor did not take a 'sample', although I suppose I could have taken a pair of the previous nights underpants with me!

@port perran don't worry Martin, when I feel able, I will be at the bottle!  :)

And as for you Mick @Newportnobby  :P

Salmonella enteritidis phage type four the likely culprit.  Both eggs and chicken potential sources.  If eggs were properly scrambled then I suggest the source was the ...

Anyway, I wish you a good recovery.  Plenty of rest and fluids (non-alcoholic, mind [sorry]) and go easy on the coffee until you feel well enough to go to Mr Coffey's place.

Not a nice experience. Not nice at all.

With all best wishes.

Dont play Jonny Cash,s Ring of Fire or it will start you off again ,I have had several Colonoscopy examinations recently and know exactly how you felt .The stuff you have to drink tastes absolutely horrible and works a lot quicker than they say in the instructions
I hope you recover in time to enjoy your Christmas dinner.
Merry Christmas and a Happy ,Healthy and Prosperous New Year .
I am one of the few  who, enjoy your attempts at cheering us up .
Regards
Bob

I can agree with Bob I had similar stuff when I had a Colonoscopy. Became a great friend of the loo for 24 hours.

I've had quite a few colonscopies and was told I could put some lime juice in that awful vanilla type solution. I don't like lime or vanilla but at least I got a a variety. Always good to keep a Tena nearby though  :beers:

Here's an update for anyone who might be interested.  ;)

After nine days of only eating two tins of soup, in four portions, a few slices of toast, some cream crackers and a bowl of porridge on each of the last four mornings, I thought I would share some good, (to me), news. I could have posted this in the 'Happy Thread', but thought it was more appropriate to continue this thread. What's the news? I have, not so long since, had my first what I am calling 'proper food'. Okay, it was just two rashers of bacon and two hash browns but boy, it went down well!  :) . Hopefully it stays down, but so far, it has done just that with hardly a murmur of complaint. Roll on Christmas dinner, well maybe a slice of turkey and a couple Louisa's lovely roast potatoes.

Best stay off the sprouts though, you wouldn't want any follow through actions

Just a further little update-

Last night I went mad and had three fish fingers! No after effects apart from a bit of 'grumbling', (from me, not Louisa!  ;) ).

Today, I decided I would have a bit of Christmas dinner and for me, it was just a bit. Two small pieces of turkey, three of Louisas delightful roasties and a bit of stuffing. No veg' and no Yorkshire puddings. However, 30 minutes later, Sam and Ella came carroling calling. What you might call a bit of a relapse! I am blaming the stuffing, I mean it does have herbs and onions in it, so I think I ought to give that a miss for a while!

Anyways, I hope you all had a decent day and received things you actually wanted.  :beers: .

What a bummer! That thing is taking some shaking off. Must've taken the edge off Christmas a bit.

You'd better not look at my entry in the Christmas thread, then. Although if it's any consolation, the stuffing at that place  (Novotel, North Wollongong Beach) tasted like it had an entire carton of salt in it  ::)

Boxing Day morning here - hope you're feeling better on your's. Probably the best Chrissie present you could receive!

Thanks George. I must admit I am really looking forward to eating something without thinking a short time later "Ooeer".

And by the way, I am not sure the word 'bummer' is appropiate!.  :)
