Title: Tree Trouble
Post by: Platy767 on December 02, 2024, 04:18:30 AM
We have lived next door to this tree for 25 years and over that time it has dropped limbs and developed holes and cracks in the limb junctions. It had gotten very obviously dangerous and I spoke to the neighbours a month ago. Apparently they had arranged for an arborist to remove the tree, but due to the extraordinary weather on Sunday, this happened.

Part of tree missing.

There it is!

There were 2 people inside the house, at the time, but fortunately the wind was sufficient to drop it onto the garage.

Wonder if they will get a discount from the arborist.

House roof above the front door is damaged, but a blessing that nobody was injured.

...and removing a big tree requires an even bigger crane.

All gone now.

That's good. Moving into a new house in bare ground in 1981 (the road ended at the house - it is now a major traffic route), I planted trees like mad.

Aussie trees grow like weeds (sorry, but they just do) and since 1981, I have had over 10 trees removed.

If they are an Australian native, these days you can just about forget it. Tree loppers won't touch it unless you have all the necessary certification.

Never mind the fact that it'll fall on your house with the next puff of wind. :veryangry:

Where we are is a Code 10/50 area. That's a New South Wales Rural Fire Service (RFS) regulation that overrides council rules.

My understanding is if a tree is within 10 meters or other vegetation within 50 meters of your dwelling, subject to some conservation rules, the offending vegetation can be removed.

Anyway, we are glad the tree has been removed. With summer storms coming, who knows what might happen.

...and there are always arborists looking for jobs around us.
