Title: Strange Goings On
Post by: port perran on November 15, 2024, 07:45:15 PM
I've experienced a problem with the forum this evening.
If I select someone else's topic the forum behaves normally :
(https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/gallery/146/230-151124194230.png) (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view&id=146953)
But if I select my own topics I get this :
(https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/gallery/146/230-151124194310.png) (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view&id=146954)
The various buttons eg Reply, Add Bookmark etc have disappeared as have the ads plus the text seems to have elongated.
Any thoughts?
Cheers
Martin

They'll be there somewhere. I suspect it is due to the very long links in Chris Morris's post.

Cheers,

Chris

@port perran
Martin - I've shortened your link and the two posted by Chris Morris so it should be OK now if you want to check

Martin

It is due to people posting long URL links.

This is the annoying thing on the forum and spoils threads.

It will change back to normal on subsequent pages unless someone posts another. There are at least ones person who is a repeat offender.

The first incidence could have been self inflicted with your links to CDU's also Chris Morris's links.

You can shorten links by using the URL icon on the posting screen which is to the right of the video link icon

Hope this helps

Or possibly use Tinyurl

https://tinyurl.com

Quite often it's people posting links to ebay and amazon listing etc. and not realising that usually you only need to copy the URL up to (but not including) the "?" character. Anything after that tends to be tracking parameters, sorting parameters etc.

If I'm going to post such a link I copy the required part of the URL first and test it works in another browser tab, before inserting into the post.

I'll add this to our modifications list, to stop this happening in the future.

That's fair enough, but the solution is there for us anyway. Don't post long URLs! :stop:
