For anyone who has not seen it, I heartily recommend Brian Cox's 'Solar System' on BBC.
Just like his previous series (The Planets), the programme is made up of stunning photography and awesome special effects complemented by atmospheric music.
It also contains so many factoids my poor brain cell will maybe only retain 5-10% of them, if that :-[
Thanks Mick, for confirming that it's good.
I told my PVR to record it but have't watched it yet.
I agree, Mick. Very well done with clear explanations and excellent special effects. I like the way he talks to us as intelligent people and not 5 year olds.
Cheers,
Chris
I love Brian Cox and all of his series, but they all have one thing in common - they always make me nod off! Must be his soporific voice as I'm interested in the subjects and what he has to say!
Dave
I know what you mean and it's why I record the show and watch it afterwards as, if I fall asleep, I can always watch it again.
Like the film crew, I did laugh when he dropped the egg ;D
Absolutely brilliant production and presentation. :admiration:
I had the privilege a couple of years ago to attend one of his live shows (with my mum who is a retired Chemistry & Physics teacher!). That one was primarily on time venturing into time-travel and black-holes.
Mum still gives him credit for us catching the last bus home 15 minutes after it was due!
Just to make
@Nbodger say "Showing yer age again" who else remembers James Burke?
As a youngster I used to be fascinated by his programmes (not just Tomorrow's World) but 'Burke's Special' and 'Connections'
Like Brian Cox, he made tricky scientific issue understandable to an oik like me
Ah, James Burke. He would present the Apollo missions to the moon with Patrick Moore.
Yep, James Burke was great - and I didn't fall off to sleep listening! Mind you, I was a teenager...
Dave
Patrick Moore used to get so excited and talk so fast even James Burke couldn't keep up with him
Yep, it was a great program. I was fascinated by how he explained how Io works. Totally riveting watch. Can't wait for the next one.

Oh yes, wasn't he a Los Angeles millionaire police detective played by Gene Barry?
For all those who enjoyed the programme (and haven't binge watched the series) part 2 is on tonight (14.10.24)
You need to look up his book,'Connections'. A good read.
