As I think I have mentioned previously, I had a few days over in England visiting my brother and his wife in Essex a few weeks ago. On my penultimate day, we visited the Colne Valley Railway. The weather was extremely nice – ideal for visiting an outdoor attraction. To save 'waffling on', information can be seen on the website -
https://www.colnevalleyrailway.co.uk/
I will say though, that the railway is well worth a visit, especially in good weather and a few hours can be spent enjoying the experience.
These first few photographs were taken from the footbridge. There is a sign on the footbridge giving details and a view from 1972, before preservation.

I will post more photographs over the next few days.
Thanks, David.
The blue EMU on the right looks to be an AM10 (class 310) but I can't be sure, yet they have no means of powering it ???
The forum has a bad habit of rotating any pic taken in 'portrait' format so they end up on their sides. In your 'gallery' find that pic and click on 'Edit' underneath. You'll then see a screen like this and you'll have to add the pic again from your computer where the red arrow shows and then the number of degrees you want to rotate it by (where the red arrow is again) and then further down the screen click on 'Edit'
You may have to try this up to 3 times as it doesn't always do what you request.
Then again, you could just leave it on it's side as it is :D

Looks like a Class 312 EMU
308 / 307 stored out of use
Fantastic photos David
No 310s are preserved

I meant to ask about that but forgot. I will see what other pictures I have of that one.

Might have a play later. Then again, as you say, I could leave it as is and hope viewers have a more flexible neck than I have! :)
Was considering a trip to Colne Valley, although I did visit many years ago.
It appears they're now only running Sunday diesel railcar rides for the rest of this year which is a bit of a shame, so I might wait until next year.
Ed
Maybe they bought the EMU on the cheap, removed the pantograph and use it as coaching stock :hmmm:

possible
It's stored according to the
CVR website
You could take a screen grab of the photo which will be in portrait mode then repost it.
The 'CVR' has two 'Royal Mail' carriages. One is 80318, built in 1961 and 80429, built in 1971(?).
Here are some of the photographs I took of the carriages.

Do the Mail trains still pick up the mailbags on the run? 60 years ago, I had a Hornby Dublo mail van that picked up and threw out metal mail bags without stopping!
Yeah, I had a Triang one that did that.

Likewise. Scooped a plastic mailbag into the coach and then fired it into a lineside bin (missing it most of the time) ;D

The last proper TPOs (sorting on the move) stopped in January 2004. I'm not sure exactly when they stopped pick-up/drop-off on the move but certainly earlier than that.
And as of a couple of weeks ago, there are no more dedicated mail trains at all... :(

Yep, I thought it had been a while, but not 20 years! Time gets away...
At the Colne Valley Railway is a large 'OO' scale layout -
"Located behind the signal box, this houses a large (10m x 5m) 00-gauge layout, donated to the railway by the family of Mr John Tierney of Great Dunmow, shortly after his death in 2007. It was quickly dismantled and stored, whilst the location for the new building was agreed, planning permission sought, and new foundations created. The Shed itself was rebuilt and extended to make room for public access during 2010. The Model Railway was formally opened on the 4th June 2010."
